Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Naming & Descriptions
I like Emir, not too fond of Luminary, but oh well. I still prefer Physician or Sage.
(I think luminary sounds shorter than philosopher due to stress being in initial position; compare record (noun) to record (verb)).

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Naming & Descriptions
I posted some drafts for the naga path which we have no proper names.
Now you at least have a visual perspective and we could discuss possible names.

Hi ghype, The new naga's all look really good! I particularly like the way you have made the naga's unique but also familiar.
Ideas for names:
lvl 1, scavenger, lvl 2, cutthroat, lvl 3, cleaver
Or alternatively for lvl 1 other ideas could be: scourge, or stalker

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Naming & Descriptions
This would end up with these names for the naga line:
Naga Scavenger / Naga Stalker , Naga Cutthroat , Naga Cleaver
Naga Scavenger / Naga Stalker, Naga Ringcaster , Naga Bladewind
Which do you prefer more. Naga Scavenger or Naga Stalker for the lv1 ?

I think maybe Stalker, it makes a little more sense advancing to both the ringcaster and cuttthroat

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Naming & Descriptions
I'm against Cleaver, as cleaving is usually something you do with an axe or a hatchet. Cutthroat is ok if there's nothing better, but it seems more like a name for an assassin-type unit. I'm against Stalker because it's misleading - the naga has neither nightstalk nor submerge.
What is supposed to be the theme for that unit line anyways? Are they scavangers, hunters, mercenaries, guards? What role do they play in naga society or in the context of dunefolk-naga alliance? Scavanger, Slasher, Striker might work depending on the answer.
Corsair (archaic for "pirate", literally means raider/plunderer) also sounds cool, might work for lvl3.

Now that we have these suggested , I too enjoy Scavanger, Slasher, Striker much more then we had before.

I'm also against cutthroat. I could maybe get behind scavenger>slasher>striker, but that L1 name doesn't quite feel right...
While corsair sounds cool, I'm not sure the image of nagas as pirates is suitable... but then again I'm not sure it's unsuitable either?

Perhaps Stabber > Slasher > Striker?
Or Stabber > Slasher > Executer?
Or Stabber > Slasher > Executer?

Another option would be "what names the dunefolk gave to them after facing them off" but I suppose I came late to the party for that.Celtic_Minstrel wrote: ↑May 4th, 2019, 1:55 am I'm also against cutthroat. About the actual naming, if it starts with a scavenger, it should follow logically the same theme so let me look a synonyms
Scavenger synonyms: Forager, Scrounger, Hunter.
from forage we get: search, hunt, scavenge, cast about, seek, explore, raid, scour, plunder, look round, rummage, ransack, scrounge (informal), fossick (Australian, New Zealand)
and from rummage: search, hunt, root, explore, delve, examine, ransack, forage, fossick (Australian, New Zealand), rootle
So looking at those, I found interesting ransacker, delver, rooter, seeker (but for lvl 3 maybe), plunderer, scourer, and the possibility of getting the naga hunter as a lvl 2 alternative.

these are some pretty nice options Vendanna. I'd have to think about which i like the most.

Regarding the Burner:
I don't know what a naffat should be, but it seems to be an Arab term for oil. I am not happy, because that awakes associations with terrorism. Therefore I tried to find better names.
Dune Sapper -> Dune Pioneer -> Dune Demolitionist
Combat engineers are soldiers which perform construction and destruction tasks, for example: building roads, tunnels, fords, pontoon bridges and trenches, blowing up bridges, destroying roads and fortifications, dismantling rails, laying and clearing mines and so on. Sappers, pioneers and demolitionist are different terms for this kind of specialists. Because combat engineers need a lot of knowledge about explosives, the theme fits into that line.

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Naming & Descriptions
I don't feel the burner needs to be renamed, but if it were, sapper/demolitionist feels like the connotation isn't quite right, as both imply explosives rather than flame. (And pioneer just doesn't make sense at all. It has a totally different meaning.)
Re: Dunefolk Rework - Unit Naming & Descriptions
As we had no one complaining about this and no one else suggesting newer ones, the final candidates for this Naga line may look like this:
Naga Stabber , Naga Slasher , Naga Executioner / Striker
Naga Stabber, Naga Ringcaster , Naga Bladewind
Which do you prefer for the Lv3, Naga Executioner or Naga Striker?
Personally I find Executer sound more intimidating then Striker, which could fid this unit.

I prefer Executer over Striker, since it gives a better weight on the terror it creates.
Question as I'm not native english speaker, wouldn't that be "Executioner" rather than Executer?
