Better Names Mod
This mod does away with the boring fantasy names straight out of Tolkien and changes them to better sounding, more immersive names such as Mr Bonebreak (a troll name) or The Incinerator (an orc archer name).
A variety of names for all races. Rebel names are, for example, changed to better reflect their vegan/hipster/anarchist etc etc nature. Also changes names and descriptions for two troop types (a subtle change, however).
It does not alter the gameplay in any way.
The mod does not need to be downloaded in order to be played online, because it executes all the changes via in-game scripts.
Further info:
At present there are 461 names.
Currently there are from 10-13 names for each unit type, and if the unit type has a male and female version they both get 10-13 names.
The exception is there are only 6 names for the Elven Scout, and Naga nad Mermen names largely overlap.
Drakes and Saurians get only 20 names for all the unit types each, too.
The Undead troops also get names, unlike in Vanilla.
Two unit type names and descriptions have been changed. One you can see in the screenshot (Troll Rock Lover). The other one is... Okay, I'll tell you. The Goblin Rouser -> Goblin Arouser. Bear in mind these changes don't show either in the wesnoth encyclopedia or in the troop recruit window (only valid for the ageless era). I might try to change that later (but probably won't).
The names are designed to be randomly chosen and not repeat until all have been used (that is there 10-13 units of the same type and gender were recruited at some point). After which the pool gets refreshed and repetitions start to happen.
WARNING! There are some mild sexual and psychoactive substance references in the mod and as such it is not Pegi 12 compatible.

Re: Better Names Mod
Version 0.87 introduces names for all undead units.
Re: Better Names Mod
Thanks! The first addition is described right above your post.
Re: Better Names Mod
ok, but do you have any changelog with at least all the names you changed?
Re: Better Names Mod
I'd rather not do that, as it would spoil the surprise. But I can include some more info in the first post (shortly).
Re: Better Names Mod
1.0 - The system has been rewritten so now there will be no repetitions until a name pool has been exhausted. Also now simply recruiting a unit removes one name from the pool (previously it only depended on the units present on the map). The mod has been updated to be Age of Heroes compatible (level 2 units get the same level 1 unit names). It also won't break names for units/races that aren't modified by the mod.
Re: Better Names Mod
1.1 - The font size is decreased for the names that are too long to fit the unit box.
