Perhaps animation would clear it up, I can make out the skull, that is about all. :?
Yeah, about the doom warden: i quickly frankensprited some axe blades and armour onto a skeleton and so it is a bit confusing. I unfortunately rarely have time to revisit my art work but if i get a chance i will clear that up.

Thanks for posting it is always good to know someone actually cares :D

Your sprites are looking more and more badass! 8)

I like your mermen (and the troll), but I have a few points...
I don't know if using armour and shields would be the best option for an aquatic species, I imagine their defensive style would involve mobility and evasion rather than anchoring themselves and standing their ground as someone on land might do. Your fishy armour looks great though, and I can easily see it being used effectively in conjunction with the defensive style I described. The merfolk would evade and swim circles around their adversaries who would only be able to get glancing blows in which the armour would deflect.

I'm still not sure about the shields, especially the one on the spearcaster. What I would do (just my preference) is I would change the praetorian shield so that it was narrower, more "surfboard" shaped, then I'd give it to both. I can't picture any advantage to lugging a heavy tower shield or large round shield around under water. It would slow you down, act as a sail in ocean currents, obscure your vision and formations such as you'd find in land warfare would have to work differently anyway, so I don't see as much value.
A surfboard shaped shield would still work as it is hydrodynamic and with its pointy corners it can be used to ram into opponents at speed as well as covering you from attack.

The humans look good, even the "not very good one" as well as the troll, but I don't have any suggestions for them right now.
...apparenly we can't go with it or something.

Thank you for your encouraging comments!

I will post the modified merman when they are finished, also if I have time I will animate the forest warden.

Also forest dragon asked (in PM) if I planned on doing the merman iniate line and the answer is yes! :D

I plan on franken spriting 4th AND 5th level units for every unit in wesnoth ;) of course that will never happen but i will try to get all the units at least one more upgrade. The drakes and khalifate are also on my list.

Hey Gnat,
Since you seem to be the most active Frankensteiner around atm, would you consider making a wolfrider walking corpse using the new zombie wolf sprites?
Maintainer of the Imperial Era and the campaigns Dreams of Urduk, Epic of Vaniyera, Up from Slavery, Fall of Silvium, Alfhelm the Wise and Gali's Contract.
But perhaps 'maintainer' is too strong a word.

Yeah :D I will have a look at that and see what I can do, be warned though ;) that I generally only make a base frame and dont animate most of my Franken units.

So as requested by unwiseowl here is the zombie wolf rider. Rather than sticking a human on him i have put a goblin because they are the ones who ride wolves.

Also i made some animations, but i am undecided about whether which of these north attack animations is better:
