Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
New here! Sorry if i do something wrong!
I wanted to make one of the Deep Ones from Lovecraft's Myths. Basically, fish people. Did i get the style correctly? Is there something wring with the pallettes? Please comment, because i'm unsure if i made it right.
I also tried to give it a crack at animating it, but i did only barebones, not really doing much special artwork for the animation, as it was just to test.

That looks really impressive.
I don't know what your plans are, but lovecraftian "bog men" are something that would be a great resource to a lot of different campaigns/umc. If you did a whole set, that'd be rad - if it's just one, it'd still be very useful.
So I'd definitely take my hat off to you. Very cool!

Looks amazing and the style fits perfectly into wesnoth.
I'm not 100% sure about the palette. It looks good in closeup, but the smaller images seem a bit flat. You could try to increase contrast by making the dark green colours even darker or adding another shade of green if you want.
The animation also is very nicely done. I especially like the small flap of his belly and loincloth. If you want to work on it further you should change the shoulder movement. I think it extends too much when he goes for the bite. Maybe let him take a step forward too, so his leg movement is more interesting.
Also I'd add one or two more gills when he extends his neck to bite.

How cute, I love him
Not very active on the forum anymore, but I still read it, and I also still play Wesnoth and draw a bit.
Re: Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
Looking fine to me. Not sure if we need a line. Would be certainly nice, but we have only one yeti or one dragon too.
Colors look fine for me. What is a bogman? Maybe "Lovecraft" is not open source? That might be why we are not having Tolkiens orcs but Wesnothian orcs.
And in case you did not notice: Jetrel is the art director here. So for me it sounds like you going straight to main line. Congrats!

very good! It will be great to see what this unit advances to!!
As you can tell from all the positive feedback, lots of people would love to see more of your art!

Thanks a lot! Indeed, the positive feedback makes one quite happy. I'll try to answer all!The_Gnat wrote: very good! It will be great to see what this unit advances to!!

Thanks! I'll see, it depends wether i can do these ones in the quality and speed i want, but for now, i'm quite inspired and free of time!Jetrel wrote: That looks really impressive.

Thansk for the feedback! You seem to be a bit right, it does look a bit flat from afar. At the end of the post i'll post one image of the little guy with a pallette with more contrast applied. What do you think?Vyncyn wrote:Looks amazing and the style fits perfectly into wesnoth.

Thanks! And well, they can still be fish people, right?Wussel wrote:Looking fine to me. Not sure if we need a line. Would be certainly nice, but we have only one yeti or one dragon too.

There is the new palletted deep one! I was a bit shy with the contrast, but maybe it works better?

Great job Stopsignal!! The new one looks really good, and i like the small step he has now when attacking, and the larger mouth opening!
Look forward to seeing more!
EDIT: Yeah i agree with wussel the shadow should move a little also!

Re: Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
I did notice some new sprites with lesser contrast for "burning suns" campaign. So maybe Jetrel likes less contrast? I am not sure what would be better. Some explaination about "contrast for sprites" would be cool too.
Maybe the pitch black mouth opening is to dark?
The shadow however could be a bit animated for sure.

Re: Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
I like the new version more, though his arms could be a tad brighter.
Really great work with the animation too. There are a few issues witch his belly, but it can propably be fixed with just a few pixels. It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment, but I think when he closes his mouth his tummy extends just a bit too much and looks kinda "cut in half".
All in all it is absolutely amazing, I really hope you`ll make more in the future

Thanks for the kind words!
I continued a bit. I also started with the portrait, though i figured i should probably ask for opinions on the sketch before continuing.
And here are the animations! I also put the spritesheets in spoilers. I'll definetly fix the little things, the brighntess of the arms and that belly. When i get free time!
I think this is the basic set to be able to try it in the game, right? I should probably give a crack at coding it in. I want it to be invisible in the water, for extra fun.
Please critique!

Hi Stopsignal the animations look great! I personally don't have any expertise at portrait drawing but it seems like it will turn out well!
Also if you would like me to code a cfg file for your unit i would be happy to!

Re: Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
That would be really nice of you! Also i wouldn't bother you later, as if you do that i guess i'll be able to make other units out of the same code, and update it with time.
Wheneeeeever you have time, try if you want. Would be really great! Don't forget to add yourself to to the credits, though i have no idea if that's possible. If not, i'll add it to the top of the post when i finish this unit and release it!
Btw, i can give you a .zip with all the images separated, if you need it.

Re: Lovecraft's Deep Ones (New here)
Yeah sure the only thing is i don't know what your images are called (like it might be deep-one1 or bog-mag-idle-1 or anything else) and it matters what the name is so if you could upload the images as a archive (i recommend 7zip) or if you could tell me what the different images are called are i would be happy to create it for you!Stopsignal wrote:That would be really nice of you! EDIT: just noticed that you said you could give me a zip with the images, that would be great!
EDIT 2: also what would you like it to be called (bog man? fish man?) and what would you like its description to be, and its level?
