I hope LordBob has time to answer this question at some point, but kitty made a nice portrait tutorial. (Kitty is the artist who did the elves, outlaws, magi, merfolk, and more.)

The Shaman looks great, but she also looks sad. Is that intentional?

Her whole city and almost all of the people she knew did just get wiped out you know.

All these portraits look great. That campaign was badly in need of an art refresh.
My first impression of the shaman was that her head was a little too large?
Also, her breasts seem to be slanting up to the right a little too much. Is her right hip a little high as well?
Well done

Don't offend, but the draws you've posted are better for the Khalifate. Quenoth elves' skin is tan, but their hair is blond, as you can see from their miniatures. And they ride horses, like their Sylvan counterparts, not Artiodactyla.

We plan to change the sprites (or miniatures) too. In the end, the sprites will match the portraits.

Expanding projects to enjoy working on them is fine for me. Especially for this one I would appriciated to be entertained by more frequent updates once in a while.

So, you could make recoloured avatars for the units who have a sylvan counterpart. For the others, you could work with pure fantasy. ;)

Ahoy ! After...far too much time, I am getting back to the UtBS cast. The plan is to wrap it up by the end of the year so that they can be included in the first release of 2017. I've started with Garak, whom I am giving a slightly less rigid pose with upwards camera and some wind to lift his robes.

WiP for Garak (don't mind the sleeve, I'm working on it at the moment). I should have him finished later today, after which I will take care of long-due revisions on Kaleh

Me again. Garak is done, but since skin color and ancestry have been the subject of a hot debate, I've been wondering. We may have discussed this before: are any of the Quenoth old enough to predate the great cataclysm ? Or to have been born only a couple generations after it ? Garak and Zul would both be possible candidates. The idea being that an old enough Quenoth elf could have skin and hair pale enough to be tied to the wood elves, which would probably shut down any possible confusion

Elves naturally live only a few hundred years, so even "a couple of generations after" would only give you something like 1000 years maximum. Of course we don't really know how long ago the cataclysm was exactly, so maybe it really could have been only 1000 years ago. However it can't really have been a silly long time ago (like >20000 years or something), since so many traces of the old world still remain.

That's great, and exactly like I pictured Garak.

The skin color issue has only been hotly contested by a couple people who have said things like (paraphrasing): "I'm not racist, but everyone agrees that white people are more attractive." I don't see any reason we should work to cater to attitudes like that. Also, I think it would be more likely to add confusion instead of clearing it up.

Thumbs up for Garak!

As for the skin color issue, I agree with zookeeper that it wouldn't be impossible for lighter-skinned elves to still be around, but beelenaut has a point that it's really not necessary or worth it.
