rooster/owl sound

Post by starfiretbt »

How do I disable that rooster/owl sound that goes off every other turn?

You could simply delete or rename data/core/sounds/ambient/morning.ogg and night.ogg.

I hate those two sound effects, so I always do this. Maybe I'm not the only one. Does anyone actually find those sounds nice or useful?

I like them.
But that might be because I am biased.

They were introduced (iirc by Zookeeper) after I suggested them.
It was the first idea of mine that made it into Wesnoth.

I find the sounds useful, especially when playing casual multiplayer with friends (when we do something else while we wait for our turn). It gives another cue for what time of day it is, and may prove to be extremely valuable when using liminal units.

Maby just add a checkbox in the Sound-Setting "Disable Sound on turn start" - I think that would make everyone happy ^^

I have to concur with beetlenaut here, although it never occurred to me to delete their files for some reason. Perhaps they would be less grating if they weren’t so loud and had additional variations.

sound on turn start = turn bell, which can be disabled already

A rooster in the morning, an owl at night ... melikes it very much! :)
Not only because it draws attention to the time of day,
I enjoy ANY (generally under-utilized) natural ambient sound beyond the clash of weapons, wails of pain and death screams
(e.g. a fanfare after Sound the alarm!, birds in the woods, faint waves when close to a river or the sea...).
I don't mute the music either, mind you...

At one point this annoyed me a lot, but now I don't notice it anymore.

It would be nice to turn them off, but for now I guess deleting the file will have to do, thank you.
