Just a quick question: Is the lower half of the sword supposed to disappear like that? There are probably swords that look like this, but it still seems odd. Feel free to ignore me if it's intentional. :)

There were some issues with the sword (because it should be straight, without a kink) and with the shield (I think it should be higher).

I hope you understand what I mean.

EDIT: And I think the hand position was more right in the first picture.

That soldier wearing a buckler with an umbo. The hand holds the buckler by a crossbar that is behind the umbo, no belts are used to hold the buckler.

So the position of the hand in the image is correct.

Looks great! I only have two 'problems' with it. 1) The studs on the glove looks a bit weird and out of line. 2) The pommel on his dagger seems somewhat off center from the handle, but it may just be the angle. Overall very good!

Note: Coming from a non-artist, so my critiques shouldn't be taken heavily

 having crafted stuff myself (I'm presently working on an Epic Rugged Backpack of Traveling (+2)), I'm fairly forgiving when it comes to people drawing rivets or stitches not perfectly straight, when you make things by hand instead of on a factory production line, this sort of thing happens. But when it comes to the dagger pommel I've got to agree with DeCoolest_Cat, you should look at that.

And now I sound like a hypocrite here for having shouted at people for talking about weaopns being "too big, it's not realistic"... for me the pole arm looks heavy and not the sort that I personally would want to use in conjunction with any sort of shield, especially a buckler. I'd suggest just making it narrower without making it look too flimsy.

I like the scars and the dents in his armor
...apparenly we can't go with it or something.

Hi z5x1,

There are a lot of really good details and distinct character to your portraits, but they seem a bit flat. I believe that if you spend more time on the line-work, so that the lines are thicker away from the light-source, it will be assist in the shading.
If you want to, post your next work before you shade it, and I can try to show you what I mean.
