Elvish units

Post by Elvish_King »

Hi, this is my first entry in this forum. I am a German and my english isn't so good, so please don't care about my mistakes. I created for my era (which isn't published yet) some elvish units and I want to show you what I made.
elvish-tree.png
Because this is my first try of creating a unit, it isn't so perfect. Theese elves are added to my era, attack- and movement animations are done, too. Instead of a real profile, I used the profiles of "Isomithir", "Logalmier" and "Aryad" from the Rise of Wesnoth.
I hope you liked my pictures.
Please leave a rating and write what can be improved

I love your new elves, especially the mage/magic user.

If I ever get round to finishing my era (unlikely) you might find your name in the credits because I like the idea of stealing your work!

The only thing I can suggest to you is that you don't always have to make your sprites so 'busy' - I mean that one guy looks like he's got a weapon in each hand and another strapped across his back... this would be fine if they were the sort of weapons used in conjunction, like a sword and dagger, even a sword and axe as the vikings sometimes used, but... I don't know, I'm just not sure what's going on with the weapons some of your elves have, I wonder if they'd need to drop the extra weight in order to fight properly? Maybe it would make more sense if I saw the animations.
...apparenly we can't go with it or something.

Is it just a coincidence that the one on up right resembles my unit very much?

I'm sorry, I didn't know that it was your unit.
I took the image from the campaign "Elves Banding for War" and I very sorry to have forgotten to write it down here. It. has been added to the credits of my era times ago, so I forgot it now.
I hope I haven't infringe the copyright. :?

No worries. I think all stuff uploaded to the UMC server are under GPL and therefore can be used. I just wanted to be credited if my art is used (although the unit has been edited a bit).

Forgive my stupid question, but I want to add the attack animations and I don't know what to write, so I ask:
What do I have to write down to show the animations?
I cannot explain it good  , but I hope you understand my question.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but have you looked at this page? http://wiki.wesnoth.org/Create_Art
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

The animation code is explained here: http://wiki.wesnoth.org/AnimationWML, but it is easier to copy the animation file for a unit that already exists and modify it. (For example, data/core/units/elves/Archer.cfg)

If I now read my text I see that nobody could never had understood what I really meant.
I did not mean how I can add the attack animatians in the game (I know how that works)
but I wanted to know how to add animations in the forum, not just simple pictures but fluentmovement of the units.
I'm sorry for my bad question and I hope you can understand it know.

If you want add something like this below:

http://forums.wesnoth.org/download/file.php?id=65269

You need to first create gif file, not jpg, bmp, png. In gimp you can do it easly, on one picture you have to give all layers with your unit pictures (animation) and click "Save as" there you set file type, also you have to click to show only 1 layer at same time.

I haven't posted a (more or less) long time because Iwas on vacation.

@ ChaosRider: Thank you, that was exactly what I meant. :D I'm going to try it out later. Wait for my post in a few days.

I really like them, especially the top two and the magic users. I think the middle advancements for the unmounted unit are a bit too cluttered or 'busy'.
If presented with the opportunity, I would take great pleasure in becoming a world ruler.

Do you mean the units with the staff?
I tried to make the level 2 not so busy.

What I meant is it's hard to tell what's going on on that guy's chest because there' too much happening. I think the staff was in the right place before, but maybe moving whatever it is in his right hand could help.

This thing in his right hand should be a bow. I fixed it (hopefully).
