For starters, the hunter's right hand appears shorter than his left and there is also an issue where his trousers seem to be continuous with the cloak/cape.

That's team-color. It will change depending on team in game.

Knightmare, you've told it too negatively. The sprite looks pretty good overall, it just has a few faults. You should start by telling that it's good, not start listing flaws you've found.

I think that the sprite looks good, just his right shoulder's position is somewhat uncertain and his left knee is somewhat weird, like if his pants were somewhat oversized there. His left foot's position is also somewhat awkward. Also, maybe his belt's central part could me moved 1-2 pixels higher (geometrically, the elliptic shape of his belt should have more excentricity).

Tell your pal z5x1 that he's a pro.

It's not bad, but a few things:
1. Don't try to fit in all detail as if you took a photograph of a bowhunter and shrunk him down to 68 pixels. Little details won't work at this scale, that's why the Wesnoth sprites have cartoonish proportions.
2. Think of the sprite as a simple object, say a bowling pin, and get the overall shading from a light-source in the upper-right-hand direction. You shaded the details well enough, but overall, it looks a bit flat.
3. Don't be afraid of outlines. Outlines can be an eyesore if done wrong, but they can help the sprite pop out of the surroundings. The sprites are basically icons, so this is desirable.

Look at the mainline horsemen, saurians, and maybe dwarves(?), Some other mainline sprites, like many of the elves, are in need of an update and should not be looked to as models.

Hope that helps.

These are looking good- only crit from me is to be careful when using straight lines, or parts like the wooden shield or the uh, Russian guy's leg armor where there could be more color variation.
