Rbuck's Junk thread (currently Steelhiveish Villages)

Post by Rbuck »

Hello,
I'm a novice at pixelart -- if you have criticism for my work please say so. I want to improve.

At present I am working on a village I made sort of for the Steelhive faction.
It's definitely WIP, but I don't know what it still needs (that is, besides shadows).

Edit:

A paintbrush is worth a thousand swords.
The average pen is equal to a sword, but a picture paints a thousand words.

I'm not sure, but I don't think that'll fit in the hex. Other than that, I really like it.

64 views and no replies? You guys are mean!
I would wager that almost all of those views are from people who know less about pixel art then you, so have no good advice to offer. Also, the view counter does not count each view as unique to users, so if you've opened this thread 15 times, you are 15 of those views.

Another village or some of the steelhive units next to it for size comparison might help, or let people give opinions on how well it fits in with the style of the units.

It's just a little larger than this large mainline village.
:hmm: maybe it is too big.

Given that there's a potential change in the Steelhive style, I don't know. I may revise it (this was mainly for pixelart exercise, after all).

We could be waiting a long time to see the new style based on the tone of his post, so it was a thought to help since you were noting the lack of comments.

well, but apparently one can see, that the steelhive units are much brighter than your village. Also your village seems a bit too big, but not large enough. Perhaps you could add some kind of building to the side, which is a little smaller?

@Paulomat4: perhaps like this?

I changed the village according to the palette I, ah, borrowed from Zerovirus' sprites...
YG, Zerovirus, where the heck did you get that awesome palette!?

that's definitely better :) , but

ahhh, that nearly too bright :lol2:
I imagined the second building to be a bit bigger, like some sort of expansion of the main tower :hmm:

Added a Boltstriker unit (new style) for comparison.
I don't know, maybe now it's too dark!

Having added the bunker thing, I don't see how to merge them.
If you had another tower in mind, it might make the village look like a city :P

Or if you want, you could try to link those buildings with pipes and tube.
The color seems fine now to me in every case :)

I'm not too keen on the new building, to be honest.

Maybe like a lean-to?

That's an interesting thought. Added a glass tube and a metal pipe.

@Paulomat4 and Doomchicken: thanks :D

Another village coming up.
It may bear some resemblance to a certain well-known robot.
