game_error: invalid side(4) found in unit definition

Post by Adamant14 »

What can cause this error?
error general: Error while playing the game: game_error: invalid side(4) found in unit definition
The error is triggered by a victory event.
but there is no side 4 in this, nor in the following scenario. :hmm:

Do you try to create a unit on nonexistent side 4?

No, there is nothing related to side four.
In the actual scenario are only three sides, and in the following scenario are only two sides.

Well, you got to have made such a mistake somewhere. You sure your utils.cfg or deaths.cfg don't contain anything like that?

Might have something to do with recall list carryover then, if some enemy sides in the next scenario are supposed to be persistent.

I can't speak to your particular case, Adamant14, but I've found that error pops up in 1.11.0 (maybe 1.11.1 too, but hasn't happened to me yet) and it seems intermittent. Sometimes side 1 is invalid, and it goes away for reasons I can't figure out. It may be a sign of buggy WML, but I think the given error is a red herring.

If you're still using 1.11.0, then it's this bug: https://gna.org/bugs/index.php?20208 . The solution is simple: update to 1.11.1. 8)

I forget to mention that this happened on BfW 1.11.0,
so according to Elvish_Hunter's post I will update to BfW 1.11.1

Thanks to you all for your answers. :)

EDIT:

Updated to BfW version 1.11.1

recal-list problem (only) with BfW 1.11.1?

Post by Adamant14 »

The error message is gone, but now I have a broken-recall-list problem. :(
Gitanomad_X wrote:I've encountered a bug in the "Revenge" scenario on Mac OSX 10.8.2, Wesnoth 11.1, Antar 0.9.3. The recall list is empty and I can only recruit new units.

In my campaign I have two different sides, alternately playable by the player.
A human side that is always side=1, and a elvish side that is in the first scenario it appears side=2, and in all other scenarios side=1.
With Bfw 1.8 and 1.10 I never had problems with recall lists and switching sides.
But now working with BfW 1.11.1 the elvish sides recall list is gone in the second scenario the elves appear. :(
This never happened to me working with earlier BfW versions.
I added save_id and persistent=yes, but the recall-list is still gone.
Maybe it is a BfW version 1.11.1 bug.

EDIT: The bug does not appear in BfW version 1.11.0!

Cephalo has a similar problem with his campaign:
cephalo wrote:Hmm, I've been playtesting this campaign with 1.11, and I have a broken recall list between Ariphron's refugees, Shifty's spy mission, and Jevyan taking over Ariphron's recall list. Does anyone know if other campaigns have similar issues porting to 1.11? I'll have to fix it after the holidays. Nobody has noticed any such trouble with 1.10 right? I'm assuming this is 1.11 related.

By the way, does anybody know about the progress of BfW version 1.11.2?

Yes, I noticed that. :)
But does anyone know when 1.11.2 will be released?
I don't ask for the exact date, I only want to know if we have to wait for days or rather for weeks, or maybe months.

game_error: invalid side(4) found in unit definition

Post by Adamant14 »

Sorry for resurrecting this thread.
Maybe I should have to start a new one, but on the other hand my problem is related to this thread somehow.

The issue with the second human leader is fixed.
Many thanks for that;
But in my campaign I have also a AI-controlled (persistent) side.
The use of 'save_id' and 'persistent=yes' seems to crash the game.

When I remove 'persistent=yes', then the next scenario starts without any problem,
otherwise I get an error message, and the next scenario wont load.
The error message is:
"Error while playing the game: game_error: invalid side(4) found in unit definition"
error_message.PNG
(the persistent AI side was side number 4 in my previous scenario)
