[1.10 SP Campaign] Knights of the Silver Spire
I am happy to report that Knights of the Silver Spire is now ported and available for Bfw 1.10 (1.9 Addons Server). (It was last available on 1.5 / 1.7 servers).
Campaign Description:
5 Scenarios are currently playable. Scenario 6 is currently placeholder only.
Feedback, bugs and error reports greatly appreciated.
Thanks to Solsword for all the advice, and to Aghanim, who got me the latest files and is helping with development. A huge amount of coding has gone into the campaign (by Solsword). This is the most scripted campaign that I have seen.

Re: [1.10 SP Campaign] Knights of the Silver Spire
I playtested the campaign on Easy.
I have the impression that Ambush is a bit too muck based on luck. Due to some bad strokes (and my ally stealing XP), I was unable to level my mage to White Mage in the first scenario, and the result was I kept losing him, and I had no way to heal the Merman leader: I had to rely on save-load until I obtained a decent outcome.
My suggestion is that you should auto-recall also the Dwarf and the Merman Netcaster.
Also, all the loyal units do not have the loyalty overlay (bronze ring), and some lack the hero overlay (silver crown); I even noticed that the Merchant unit is missing some frames.
In Restless Waters, I got a deprecation message: you should change [removeitem] to [remove_item].
I got the following stderr errors:
And finally, running the mainteniance tools was mandatory, and they reported a fair amount of things that need fixing.
Finally, don't forget that in 1.10 we have a new 24-hour schedule available.
By the way, I fixed a malformed [ quote ] tag in your post.

Thanks for the updates.
Your Wml-lint is comment is relevant. I wanted to put this up in a hurry (am going travelling next week) - and hence did not get around to running it (this is the first time I am porting a campaign).
The interesting thing is - I did not get any of the Stderrors that you got - how do I get those.
(Note: I do the [removeitem] message.
I will work on your other comments as well, including balancing Scenario 5.

Do you mean, "where can I find the stderr"? Well, what operating system are you using?Starlight wrote:The interesting thing is - I did not get any of the Stderrors that you got - how do I get those.
On Windows, you should search for your game installation directory (see http://wiki.wesnoth.org/EditingWesnoth ), and on Vista and 7 you should look in the VirtualDrive directory. More details here: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23894
On Linux, you can just start the game from the Terminal, as the stderr will be printed here.

Campaigns: Knights of the Silver Spire
Re: [1.10 SP Campaign] Knights of the Silver Spire
Hi,
Played the campaign on normal. Looks promising: storyline a lot better than the typical UMC. Makes a change to have two different heroes' storylines merging, and some thought clearly put into joining the scenarios together in a story rather than a string of battles.
However, whilst most UMCs tend to be plot-lite (often with a script that would make the writers of Police Ninja 7 cringe), this one I feel currently goes too far the other way. Out of the three playable scenarios so far, they end before the battles have really got anywhere. I'd consider at the least have scenario 2 requiring holding out longer before the duke gets drowned (which was a good twist), and have a longer stream of enemies in scenario 3. Once you've killed off the nearby saurians, there isn't much to do.
Also (and this is from my script-writing perspective rather than a gaming perspective), less if more when it comes to dialogue. I find it best to cover the main elements of the plot in as few lines as possible. We could probably cover the scene with the duke throwing out the silver spire mages in fewer lines. You could even have the heroes entering the scene just as the new duke has made his decision.
Like the pictures, but they currently look too much like photos. Might be worth putting thenm through GIMP/photoshop to make them look more like paintings.
Look forward to seeing how this gets on.

Firstly, sorry for the late reply. I had gone travelling for a really long time (once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage), and then got caught up in my son being in hospital.....
Hope to spend time now on this campaign.
Also open to anyone reading this.....please post or messasge me....

Feedback accepted. Will work on the changes. Also would you like to work on them - I currently have positions open for co-campaign developers.........Chris NS wrote:However, whilst most UMCs tend to be plot-lite (often with a script that would make the writers of Police Ninja 7 cringe), this one I feel currently goes too far the other way. Accepted. Will work on tightening the dialogue.Chris NS wrote:Also (and this is from my script-writing perspective rather than a gaming perspective), less if more when it comes to dialogue. I am not too good with graphics myself. But I can replace the stuff in the campaigns if somebody else works on it.Chris NS wrote:Like the pictures, but they currently look too much like photos. Might be worth putting thenm through GIMP/photoshop to make them look more like paintings.
Just came back home - but am looking to re-start work on the campaign....Chris NS wrote:Look forward to seeing how this gets on.
Campaigns: Knights of the Silver Spire
Re: [1.10 SP Campaign] Knights of the Silver Spire
i like the longer story format and the story itself is great so far.
small dialogue suggestions:
2-Restless_Waters
small dialogue suggestions:
2-Restless_Waters
- Could remove the sentence "But neither Lenara nor the Duke knew of the being that accompanied this raiding party, or of the events that would ensue..."
- Agree with fellow who said there is too much back and forth in the opening dialogue. Also the hints can be confined to the EASY difficulty.
- there appears to be dialogue for the case where the player wins the battle, but i cannot see how that will ever be possible with so many waves of Nagas attacking
- might get by with only 2 senior Silver Council attending the throne, to reduce amount of dialogue.
- Eddin says "So now you cast aspirations on the messenger..." should be "aspersions".
- not clear how resources will be used: will level 2 units cost more upkeep?
- a hint about terrain on the planned journey would seem essential.
- doesnt seem to be much variety for the land units. why no archers for a scouting mission in the wilds?
- when Lenara picks units, there were some i couldnt talk to because they were on the south edge of the map
- should it be possible to bring some of the units that got experience last scenario while fighting nagas? i noticed some in the recall list and did so.
- theres a note "Remember: recalls are free, but units that rest use fewer supplies." what does that mean? are we being billed for healing? where can we see the supply inventory?
- on the EASY difficulty it was very hard to keep all the units because saurians kept popping out from the fog. should probly be easier to survive.
- as someone said, what to do once the saurians are gone? except go grab villages i guess.
- is there supposed to be a sprite for Xix? this message in the stderr might be relevant
20130113 18:17:06 error display: could not find image for report: 'units/saurians/skirmisher.png~RC(magenta>3)'

Re: [1.10 SP Campaign] Knights of the Silver Spire
I have find 2 errors so far.
In the "Restless Water" the nagas does not retreat if the duke is killed in their first attack, but the do if he is alive one more turn.
In the ambush i cannot rise Xix to the next level, i get a message saying that "could not find the unit being advanced to: Saurian Reedwraith"
