[Request] Shuffle sides icon
Recently in Wesnoth a new option in creating multiplayer games was implemented - "shuffle sides" (author of the change: Quetzalcoatl). It allows to randomize starting positions without a need for an additional add-on.
Since it's a hosted game option, it needs to be somehow depicted in the lobby. Quetzalcoatl provided an icon, admitting that it's probably good enough only as a placeholder. Therefore, if anybody wants to try replacing it and has a good idea of what could be in it, they're welcome.
Currently the icon shows a colorful die, but it can be anything that represents the idea.

Re: [Request] Shuffle sides icon
Currently (Correct me if I'm mistaken), a die is used for the random faction. Maybe a few arrows (pointing north and south) may look better.
Re: [Request] Shuffle sides icon
It's displayed in a different place than the random faction die - in the lobby game list, whereas random faction die is displayed in the faction choice dialog. A die is a good idea to convey random starting positions, but if you have made graphic based on another concept, by all means submit it - 16x16 icon isn't probably that much work anywaydipseydoodle wrote:Currently (Correct me if I'm mistaken), a die is used for the random faction. That die makes me think of... turning randomness on or off, not randomizing starting positions. I tried to make something that would give an impression of... changing positions; of switching, no, shuffling things around. I think I failed, but here it is anyway.

Be aware English is not my first language and I could have explained bad myself using wrong or just invented words.

I was thinking the same thing as 8680. This is what I came up with:

I also went for arrows.
EDIT: Decided it was clearer with less outline.

Re: [Request] Shuffle sides icon
random side only has efect at game creation... do we really need it at the lobby ?

Re: [Request] Shuffle sides icon
Decided to try a few alternative approaches, since there's been a lot of arrows.

I am a fan of SFault's recycling logo for it

Re: [Request] Shuffle sides icon
I currently like Atz's shuffle-sides3 the best, since I think a question mark is a good idea to represent this. But I think I shouldn't and won't be the one making the final decision anyway, but rather people qualified for it (i.e. Art Directors).
Isn't one of the purposes of the icons in the lobby to easily find games with settings you like in order to join them? But yes, I think in the future the actual randomizing could be done by changing some settings in the mp_connect, not mp_create screen. This way the icon wouldn't be needed, since the player randomization would be depicted there. But somebody has to code it firstboucman wrote:random side only has efect at game creation... do we really need it at the lobby ?
