Anyone opposed to this being included?

This is an attempt to "spritify" the 3d tower that dude made in Blender.

(new one is the grey one on the left).

It looks good. The base could have some sort of earthen border that makes it blend with the grass a little bit better. What you did is much better than the original, but I think that is an area for improvement.

edit - "what you did" to the base, that is

mind if you make the colors a little more like the castle terrain?

This unit will very likely be on castle.

I too think the outlines are now too weak and need to be better matched with the castle. Otherwise it is outstanding.

I must say I prefer the original, except the papir thin look of the parapet at the top.

the outlines should be black like those on the castle, IMHO. other than that, its good.

I agree with everyone that said the outlines aren't strong enough

I disagree. The outlines are just right. The outlines on almost everything else are too dark.

Look at how well the tower fits with the forest terrain and than compare it to the castle

The tower is way too soft for the forest.

I dunno, I actually think the current castle graphics are too harsh and need to look more like this tower update - less outline, more stone effect. But that's my humble non-contributor opinion.

edit: in essence, I completely agree with hurleybird.

go in between. the tower is too soft, and the castle is too dark. try to find a dark grey for the border that looks good, instead of a black or a light grey.

I'll see what I can do, probably following well in the line of what túrin suggested. As is likely obvious, I am not especially a proponent of the old style of sprite work - done with a minimal set of colors and hard shapes filled with color.

I try to minimize edges as much as I can get away with. In this case, this would like fine, but it needs to better match the castle.
