Thanks for portrait ; )

Memrarch:
It's facing south while normally units in Wesnoth are facing south-east
But I really like the portrait. And I think your sprites are going to be very nice if you succeed in turning them a bit.

I'll try hard to restrain myself from expressing amazement and nitpick as possible..uh..yeah..it is hard
portrait - it took me a while to notice the hands are hands and not an ornament..or are those hands?, their surrounding is quite blurry and makes it hard to tell what is what. There's also a few places where the colour changes of his aura are a tad jumpy - I can clearly see you used some stamp tool, especially with those two lines comming out of the bottom
as for the sprite - the sword is conceptually neat, but concentrating so much on the blades outline leaves you very little space to show the blade correctly. You've also left the boots as a patch of single colour and there's a bit of mess with the shadow - I can see a few contrasting graytones on most frames and the 7th and 8th frame seem the same thing - what's the use then?
btw his mask on the sprite remind me of V for Vendetta

Like cats? I've made a whole faction of them to kick ass with!

Re: little creation for fun
He's looking south, his torso is looking south, his sword is aimed south, he is orientated southwards.
Also, the animation changes too little of his body. If he's slashing someone, he is going to turn quite a bit and lunge forwards. At the moment, it looks like he's just moving his sword, not attacking.

STDrake : Ok thanks for your comment, and for the face, it's normal, i have use black color for more contrast and more expression. Well it look like older than a lambda mask but my truly inspiration is venitian carnival . Sorry for my bad english i'm french x)
Edit : It's better ?

One more thing. The top-right corner of his robe should be less visible.

Good looking, although see http://wiki.wesnoth.org/Creating_Shadows_Under_Units for shadow specification. Yours seems to be anti-aliased or have some compression/scaling artifacts. Are you creating the sprites at this size, or do you downscale them from bigger images?
Units generally require big portraits with transparent backgrounds so that the portrait can be used in scenario dialogs.

Re: little creation for fun
I think you're onto something there... Wesnoth units get their nice crisp use and obvious details from the fact that they are drawn at native size with a pencil tool. For example, compare your unit with a mainline Spearman, Swordsman, etc.em3 wrote:do you downscale them from bigger images?
