Jay's portrait WIP thread

Post by Crow_T »

I feel like I am at risk of starting several threads  so I'm going to consolidate into this one.

I'd propose a tad slimmer line of the tentacle nad possibly a little larger/longer but not that utterly sharp ending..thing..whatever is that "tentacle palm" called
not sure you should go with such a humanly look for the fire guardian..at least not with the current sprite. You could actually play around with it more, while giving a humanoidal frame would limit you a little..though what's a limit to some may be making things easier for others
I can't recall right now if the arty fellows told you enough about the yeti - I like the face, it looks practically finished, but the arms need some rounding and furring up here and there
Like cats? I've made a whole faction of them to kick ass with!

Crow_T: i read in the previous topic you couldn't find the Fire Guardian. Well, here it is.. A bit seems like their arms were wings as well, and after all they were able to fly in the game. Hope this was helpful. ^_^

I toned the yeti down a bit- and since I forgot to subscribe to this thread missed the FG crits, d'oh! Ah well, I can change him up a bit (or a lot heh) if need be. Agreed on the tentacle, I was thinking the same- too fat.

Edit- yetis furry forearms need help.

The Yeti's arms and shoulders should be bigger - you've thinned him down since the sketching stage, and he's lost a lot of his imposing hugeness. It would be great if you could work that back in.

Playing around with some Fire Guardian forms, c&c welcome. I'm trying to get a grasp on how to interpret the sprite designs- literally, or to what extent they can be deviated from. BTW I had this as a kid: http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=196346

I like B and D

As to closeness to the sprite, as long as it is recognizable as the unit, you can feel free to leave out/add details.

this goes for they're/their/there as well

Pick up another vote for B&D. I can't remember the unit's campaign role - if it's a baddie, B. If it's a goodie, D =)

Are we talking about that one where Caladon steals that Fire Sword and conjures up Fire Guardians to kill the mermen in DW?

Personally, I think B. Though the pose does look kind of funky, sort of like he's dodging something...

It also appears in UtBS I believe. But I'm pretty sure it's not on the side of the angels there, either.

To save you and others the trouble:

The troll high shamans summon them "In the Tunnels of the Trolls". The shamans are the player's enemy.

I'm into B, judging by the previous work D might run into some trouble with that overgrown risen 'torso'

Thanks for the input on the fire guardian, I'll start with B as a base.

TSI / LordBob: Don't you think a quick paintover with lines showing the desired proportions may be more useful than trying out lots of different yetis? It's just an idea that occurred to me while reading this thread, but feel free to disregard if you don't agree.

Yep, that's a good point. I'll whack a quick p/o up this afternoon some time - you're closer with the latest one on size, but there's still a perspective issue on the hands. I'll need to work it out myself before I post though. Hands are always awkward, perspectives like that are even more confusing.

Watch this space.
