Enchanted Forest

Post by Tyler Johnson »

I'm working on something that I want to be submitted to mainline.

It's simply called "Enchanted Forest".

I used these 2 pictures as inspiration:

Uno
Dos

Bear in mind that I mixed this using headphones :augh: so it may sound completely different to me than it does on studio monitors, so the processing still needs work, but the harmonies and structure of the song are pretty much set in stone.

I'll be expanding on this, but for now, this is what I have.

Any comments?

I haven't listened to the song, but your second image originally comes from here. They have a higher resolution copy available if you're interested.

This is what I initially thought of when I saw the working title.

I like what I hear. Looking forward to hearing more :)

Amazing piece!

It gives me a sense of wonder and almost...fear. I guess for whatever lurks in the Enchanted Forest, haha!

Please post much, much more of this!

Sounds good to me (can't comment on the mixing, though). However, I'd suggest leaving out the chirping birds: IMO the piece itself works in a variety of environments, but the birds would sound a bit odd if you're underground.

Nice piece!! My first thought was lotro, when they walk in the forest of the witch. Good job. Questions: What software/hardware do you use, and do you write pieces in notes or chords?

I knew I would get a comment on the SFX :D

I actually didn't think of this one being used underground, but you make a valid point. Birds don't hang out in caves, right?

I'll take them out when I submit a more complete version.

Until then, back to the drawing board :eng:

Swift, I use Cubase as my DAW and a variety of Sample Libraries to create the music.

And as far as using notes or chords? Well, I use both. I'm not sure I understand the question completely.

Actually I put sheet music under my pillow and when I wake up all the music is written out.

Nah, actually I write evrything in Cubase on the piano roll. Staring at red squares for hours on end has never been so rewarding let me tell you.

the harmony in this is amazing!!! Perfect!!
some of the string attacks however sound a little fake/too direct, and the crescendos i feel sometimes fade a little *too* far away, but as for compositional structure, its really really really good!! keep working on this !! :D

That's a very good sound, I'll include in the campaign I'm making.
I'm clarinetist (If 9 years of music studies can make you a musician xD) and I find that It'sa great harmony part.

what a beautiful day!- he said- for visiting a red herring

the first 1-2 mins of this (before the percussion kicks in) reminds me quite a bit of Debussy's orchestral work, which i love - a lot.

i'm anxious to hear this one completed. nice work! :D
