It's "hakim", there's no letter or sound for "é" in classical arabic but in some dialects people do say "é" instead of "a".
The arabic word is "حكيم" which means "wise" or "sage".
I'm no expert tho.

If it's "حكيم" than it's supposed to be transcribed as "hakim".
I'm not really around any more, but you can find me in TvTropes.

Strictly (when you want the person to speak in Arabic by reading via the latin alphabet), it should be hakim/hakeem **. But hekim can work just as well for overall purposes*. It doesn't really matter.

*This is because in Arabic, you only have َ (c"a"r) or ِ (s"ee") or ُ (l"oo") as your vowels.

**Because it's a long vowel (if you really want to get technical which is utterly unnecessary).

From a person who can read Arabic without understanding the meaning.
Take a breath.

Me too! :) That looks like a major improvement in your painting skills!

Only two crits:
While I love the way you painted his skin and the glass some of his clothing could use a bit more love. The yellow sash is somewhat undetailed, the big bag with the leaves inside could stand deeper darks on the inside and the counterlight on the two small bags is overdone which results in making them unnecessary flat. Easy fixes :P
And the placement of the ear is a bit off - it's at an different angle than the face, is not seen from below and misses the fossa triangularis.

Can't wait to see more!

I would like stronger outlines in matching darker colors. All around and inside the portrait, too. Please keep up. Good work. Great to get portraits for different user made factions.

I learned how to make decent black outlines in seconds. So I hope you don't mind a little demonstration.

Tet: stop. When kitty and I have both expressed our approval of the portrait, the portrait is DAMN GOOD. You coming in and suggesting using a low-quality automatic tool to make a low-quality, unnecessary adjustment that doesn't benefit the portrait appreciably is NOT DESIRED. This is the last time you will be told, next time I will ban you from commenting in the Art forums.

For the records: I do not suggesting using a low-quality automatic tool to make a low-quality, unnecessary adjustment. I am awere that this kind of outline is no improvement. I just wanted to show the effect of an outline in general.

If you have to ban me, please do so. But I really think you are overreacting.

Zerovirus: Thanks! I actually made a conscious choice in making the first hand I did a little brighter - Then I forgot about it :annoyed: . And thus made his other glove to match the coat. Not sure why I made that choice...

Kitty: Thanks for the pointers! Just one thing seems a little unclear, by the ear being at a wrong angle, do you mean i should basically rotate it counter-clockwise? I think that is what you mean anyway, I'll see what I can do about it all.

Tet: Stronger outlines could be used I guess "shrug", works well as it is though I think.

The fuss about the unit naming: probably completely unimportant - but I have seen "Hakeem" being used as a male name a few times.

With the ear I would take some pictorial references.

I would suggest checking the throat section as well with references. For the records: That was a suggestion.

I like the picture the way it is. So no real need to change anything if you want to move on to the next in my humble opinion.

Yep, a bit of counter-clockwise rotation. And if you have too much time you could also have a look at the structure of the ear, you miss the fossa triangularis and the concha extends too far down. Picture.

Fixed the ears anatomy I think, and it's rotated a bit to the left, though it's covered more by his hair now than before. Then I put some more effort on the yellow silk sash's shading, which was indeed pretty simple. Also tweaked other stuff, the throat very slightly, as well as some of my own findings. :)

The Tineen is done now as far as I'm concerned, gave him a more matching pair of gloves and made some other tweaks.

Next coming up from my little bag of goodies is a suggestion for the Jawal, with a fair amount of added bling  ... For the Saree I took the liberty of giving him your old Jawal's hat and doing some minor tweaks.

Just in-case this got lost of forgotten several pages back, I'll bring it up one more time.

It's a very small tweak, and though i never saw issues with the horse snouts before, since making my own horse sprite and tweaking the standard horse head, the dot nose really jumps out at me now every time i see it... and it's the same on all the horses.

I personally think it's a tweak for the better, but if you do not agree Sleepwalker, ignore it and I'll not bring it up again; your judgment is infinitely more relevant than mine. I've added an example on an full unit underneath the initial illustration example for instant comparison.

I'm pretty sure I applied this tweak on the horses I made. I'll put it on at the appropriate point.
