Issue connecting to multiplayer server

Post by soul_steven »

For whatever reason I can not connect to the 1.8 multiplayer server anymore. I have been using it since it came out but now everytime it says that it can not connect to host. Everything else with my internet is working fine. Any ideas?

1. Use the edit post button to avoid double posting.
2. This would have probably been better off in the Technical Support forum.

I am shocked that someone doesnt have a post that can help me with this.. My connection is to bad to just redownload wesnoth.. It always disconnects before the download is completed. I think my computer asked me if I wanted to allow the program and I said no and that is why im having the issuse. No idea how to get it to allow the program again

well if you don't give it permission to connect to the internet, then anything that involves connecting to the internet won't work. As for how to fix it, that depends on your OS and security software, though the solution to that shouldn't be too hard to look up on google/bing/etc.

1. Uninstall every single bit of software that's supposed to keep you safe from the horrors of the Interwebz™ from your computer.

2. ????

3. Profit.

Seriously though, the only thing I've been running for the last year or so is my crappy zonealarm firewall, no antivirus/addware/spyware programs at all and I've had zero problems so far and for the select few that know of the sites I frequent(:3) that says a lot.

Of course it could be that you have a massive case of [censored] karma but meh.

The whole thing is very strange and starting to bug me... I tried turnning off my firewall completly and it STILL wouldnt allow me to connect... Yet when I tried connecting to 1.6 version of wesnoth it worked perfect.. I have no idea what the problem could be..

I don't suppose you happen to have McAfee installed on windows xp or vista? If you do, then there are actually 2 firewalls: the windows one and the McAfee one.

I DO have mcaffee on my computer actually so I will see if I can find it in that firewall.... The other firewall had wesnoth program that said it Allowed the service and it wasnt blocked so thats what is confusing me. I will try McAfee

Edit: McAfee is actually not installed on my computer and says I need to renew if I want the program so thats not the problem... SIGH

if it says renew that means that it is installed, but it just isn't updating and you really can't do anything with it anymore.

So probabyl the problem is that McAfee is blocking the program but since I havent renewed it the program wont allow me to go in and unblock the program? I suppose no more wesnoth for me then sadly :(

possibly. though imo if you aren't going to renew mcafee you might as well remove it and find out if it was the problem or not.

Yeah... don't post it here where it can benefit future searchers having the problem. :?

I would recommend AVG over any other antimalware program. Their library is much more comprehensive, and the program itself is less intrusive on your computer. A lot of other antimalwares (like norton and macaffee) tend to be more parasitic, resource costly, and annoying than the malware they half prevent. And for a long time they'd only do conventional viruses, so you were left unprotected against keyloggers and adware.
