thespaceinvader wrote:*shrug* it's unlikely to ever be seen against a white background. It doesn't actually go past yellow, at all. It could maybe stand to be a little redder in the upper registers, however.
It looks green on grass and intercave. Also my colormap gives almost 1/3 green...

Anyways, here is about the tone I'm hoping for

@TSI: Excellent work, there - that is, as has been noted, too green, but you did exactly what I was suggesting, and what you ended up with would have been rather nice for, say, a "bog monster" variant of this. Making the highlights brighter, as you did, helps establish the shape of the creature in 3d.

Here's what should hopefully be final - note the *very* subtle tweak to the pixels on the back of its head.

Also a comparison for those who're interested.

That looks good. I'll recolour the baby to match and go ahead and try to animate gloopiness. Challenge!

EDIT: new baby base frame. And a try at a movement anim, I thought this would probably be the easiest thing to try.

EDIT: and a defence anim - the point... someone... made about my original muddie being good for a defence frame was a good one...

The new shape for the little guy is just perfect. It sorta looks cute, but there's also enough "don't mess with" in there. 8)

The mudcrawler looks so cute that it almost feels bad to blast the poor little thing with fire and anti-magic. Yet it looks pissed at the same time. :lol2: I like how the crawlie's 'nose' elongates when it's defending.

Thanks all =)

I realise now that the muddy's base ought to get a little larger when it defends - that mass has to go somewhere.

It might just be me, but I think that the giant one should have a standing animation where it bobs abit and the mud just kind of flows off of it, Static dribbles just aren't the same.

I intend to come up with something like that. but making it cycle appropriately is not shaping up to be easy. Gloopiness is a challenge.

I think there may be too much yellow concentrated in some places, when compared to the giant one. Also, it's so small and low to the ground I'm not sure how it will grow an appendage to hurl projectiles-- but I'm sure you'll come up with something interesting. ;) I think it wouldn't hurt to make it slightly bigger/taller though.

Mudcrawler anim: To me the blobs of mud it leaves when he "walks" looks to consistent. I think what it really needs is more different sized and shaped blobs.
My spritework can be seen here.

Improved muddie defence. This one's final. Moving on to ranged.

I think part of the problem with the movement is the perspective. The trail's looked down on too much. What I probably want to do is play around with transparency effects and the shape of the blob.

This one's final.
You probably don't want to hear this then, but all of the mud would slosh around not just some. Currently there are whole portions that are stationary through out the defense.

...round the front you mean? Change blindness sucks, I got a lot of it. I'll fix that.

Attack, and a recoloured glob, for your delectation. Once I've got these sorted to my satisfaction, I'll upload this guy to replace the old one, and get started on the new. The movement and north will come later.

That attack probably wants some drippiness through the mouth as it opens.
