@Aura you want an awesome sprite? Sure.

Can I then use your Chaos Overlord sprite? Then my sprite can be as awesome as yours
Really. Zerovirus, could I use your Chaos Overlord sprite? Pretty please??
@Deusite that actually looks really good. artisticdude, Cap'n Wrathbow, whaddaya think of all this?

I liked artisticdude's tree better, but mainly because I was a level 3, and I got to keep my sprite... but oh well, idc.

I like artisticdude's latest chart the best. I think it flows better with the sprites and has better unit trees overall.
It appears to be the highest quality setup thus far.

Re: The Wesnoth Forum Faction (Signup Closed)
Hmm...what about this? (Ideas, again) EDIT: realized this was misleading. I'm going fro a compromise.
Let's make PeterPorty a branch from artisticdude. It seems odd to have a really fast leader all of a sudden, possibly making him OP. Thus PeterPorty can keep his original sprite and lvl 3 status.
If we do that, let's combine the leader line with the defensive. I'd like to use a unit from anyone of the Chao Invader line's sprites, if Zerovirus is okay with it. This we can have an alternate, leading and sturdy line. To balance that we can reduce attack power and/or increase exp required.
One reason why I liked Deusite's tree is the idea of Araja coming from IPS. It seems to be a very balanced choice, being very unexpected, but yet not violating RIPLIB. Same with Deusite advancing from Araja.
As for the heavy melee issue, I think it could work having Golbeeze advance into either PsychoticKittens or tapik. It wouldn't violate RIPLIB that much since there are two advancements, but it would work IMO.
So now it kind of looks like a compromise between Deusite's chart and artisticdude's chart. Thoughts?

Urgghh... What I think is that we're never going to get this perfect or satisfy everyone.
Let's just choose something, and get started on balancing, already.
(Sorry if my post sounds kind of grumpy, I really don't care what gets chosen. I consider myself a coder, not a faction-balance-specialist. I'd rather have someone tell me what to do, and I'll do it, than to discuss/argue about the best way to set up advancement. )

I agree that there's a point we must stop giving ideas and jsut choose something. We are never gonna please everyone anyway. I kinda liked Deusite's last, but PeterPorty had to change sprite to fit, which kinda defeats the purpose of the faction in the first place, so I would go with Artistic_Dude's last version, which was still pretty OK. So, I say either the three era creators stop listening to everybody's crazy ideas and choose someting, either we select the last 2-5 better ones and finally pick something with a vote. No more handing out ideas, I say.

Re: The Wesnoth Forum Faction (Signup Closed)
Which was why I was trying for a compromise
Re: The Wesnoth Forum Faction (Signup Closed)
Yeah, I guess it makes sense. Either wire it up in the vote if you decide to go that way (but then a graphic could help those more visual people to make their mind), or decide it with artistic and captain, and don't give the choice to all the forum members, since there's always gonna be a crazy-guy-with-the-most-excellent-idea-to-reshape-everything-and-make-the-faction-perfect. Although in my opinion you shouldn't need to change your sprite, but you do what you want.
Anyway, unless you call for a vote, in regard to my opinion about handing out ideas and to be coherent with it, I'll refrain from contributing anymore line up ideas and comments.
Good luck getting set on something soon, guys!

That sounds like it would work, although I'm afraid I'm a bit lost, with all the versions that have been flying around recently. Could you perhaps post a chart or something?elvish_sovereign wrote:Hmm...what about this?
I already said one version (way back when) was the final version. That didn't work out. But I'm started to get sick and tired of (and frustrated with) this constantly-changing advancement chart. I feel like the development is going in circles.
The heart of the problem is the appearance of the units. While in 99% of all other factions the units in the same line are going to look more or less alike, this is not and cannot be the case with this faction. It's time to accept this fact and move on.
Thus, I am going to say this right now: No more balancing ideas or suggestions until the era is uploaded to the server, please. We have heard all the ideas/suggestions that we really need to, and adding any more will only serve to hamper the development of this project, not help it.

Re: The Wesnoth Forum Faction (Signup Closed)
sorry. Probably mostly my fault.
Re: The Wesnoth Forum Faction (Signup Closed)
If everyone wants the best for this era, we'll get somewhere in the end
Re: The Wesnoth Forum Faction (Signup Closed)
I had a final version done that should make everyone happy (well, most people), but if you are closing the suggestions I won't post it.
Re: The Wesnoth Forum Faction (Signup Closed)
Sorry for potentially dragging this into Development Hell, but we all want a faction most awesome.
So here is Elvish Soverign's comprimise. Let's get on with this already.

I think I like artisticdude's copy more, because there is more versatility in the melee line. The flame sword horseman looks like it would fit better in the leader line, too. My one comment is to switch the lvl 1 and 2 wml wizard sprites around, because the silver mage is bigger than what it levels into, and closer resembles the lvl 3. (although this does go against the original policy where higher ranking members are higher level units)

I had switched places with Aura and used Zero's Chao Doom Guard sprite, but yeah. Unless artisticdude or Captain_Wrathbow objects I'd say this is final.
