Show your sprites!

Post by IPS »

Hi, this is a thread to show our sprites and to do some comments about them.

You need only to only know how to do sprites and to summit it :)

I start with:

Image
Fatman (my first creation!)

Image
Snakeman!

Note: I did them only for fun, not for art.

From scratch, trying to emulate CSW. I know my contrast is bad and my stance is boring, but I'm still quite proud.

Yay CSW :3

Another one of my minor influences. Not a bad product- have you considered doing anything for Wesnoth?

Actually I was looking at Wesnoth as an inspiration for sprites for some sort of TBS game- but I started playing and I've forgotten all about spriting. Maybe I'll make a unit to use as an avatar or something.

You could just forget your other TBS idea and join Wesnoth as the One TBS to rule them all. Come, join our holy communion :P

A really promising sprite, Moribund! Congrats! Sure, it doesn,t fit the fantasy theme, but it shows your capabilities. I hope to see you doing some nice stuff for Wesnoth sometime in the future :)

And you should consider posting your art in Art Workshop instead of Off-Topic ;)

Well, it's off-topic, and there are no restrictions in IPS' post, so I guess you can show any of your art.

No, Moribund, this thread is an off-topic thread, show what you want.

Zerovirus and Dixie were just trying to recruit you to do work for the Wesnoth project =)

Before joining Wesnoth earlier in the year, the closet thing to Sprite creation I'd done were these smilies for an X-Men forum. These were my first attempts after a look at a GIMP tutorial on animated GIFs (well, a tutorial for creating smilies).
Unfortunately the Havok design doesn't show up well on a light background, if you have the patience you may care to look at it in an image viewer. I remember having great difficulty understanding the replace function for GIFs at first, so I consider this one a victory for learning.

Meh, to give an indication, I've made a quick background edit to Havok for you.

Thank you, shadowmaster. Now I can safely post here without being in danger of being called a freak.

This is my very first attempt at a free-hand sprite. Can we say serious lack of contrast (among the thousand other things wrong with this sprite)? :augh:

Nice sprite, the best of it is like to be made instead used from the franken pack, but it looks weird hehehe.

Umm, yeah. Barely any shading, about a million different shades with an insanely low contrast ratio, a resolution over twice that of normal Wesnoth units, horrible anatomy, the wrong proportions, an unstable pose, a stick about a cm wide that could be easily snapped, the entire design of the sprite is about as interesting as the image before I even drew anything there... etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
