Elvish Treehouses

Post by Skater-Girl »

Hi. I've read that the BfW-team needs Elvish treehouse. I tried to draw them and find this not so bad. Hope u like it.

PS: I am always ready for criticism and changes on the pictures ;)

Too small compared to the units.

Yes, that's on the list. However, for mainline we'll need something more carefully crafted than a resized elven village placed over a tree.

That's irrelevant. Villages and units are not to the same scale.

However villages are generally to the same scale, and forests are generally to the same, but different scale. Some compromise of scale would have to be found, though i don't know exactly what (if anything) would look right.

it does help break up the monotony of the average forest, though

If you are to make a "treehouse", make it more than just a house in a tree. Imagination is a wonderful thing, so use it - I'm sure there's plenty of designs that feel Elvish but are fairly original.

Elvish "treehouses" like the ones in the LOTR movies would be sick! :D

Precisely why I don't like this idea. It feels too much like ripping off LOTR to me.

My books don't have any pictures of that city, so I couldn't tell if you were going to rip off LOTR or Peter Jackson :)

But anyways, Christopher Paolini did that and people were ok with it (but most of his books are themselves a LOTR rip off :P)

It seems to me that most tree-city designs you see build platforms across the branches and then build relatively ordinary buildings on those platforms (more or less like a child's treehouse would be). Why not have the buildings suspended from the branches like insects' nests (although probably suspended between multiple branches - like hammocks for buildings), with rope bridges between them. I think that's almost as practical, and significantly more original.

That doesn't make them any good.

EDIT: Um, it seems I'm drifting off-topic. Sorry. I'll keep my mouth shut now.
