Here's a rough beginning for the headhunter. His axe in the last frame needs to be pointing slightly more downwards, as he's currently attacking off to one side (this seems to be a flaw in most of my animation attempts thus far), but it gives at least a general idea of the motion and body positions.

I would say his hand needs to shift position towards the end on the axe handle, as he swings.

Problem is that he'd need both hands to do that, or else he'd drop the axe (and it'd break out of the 72x72 frame, although that's not really a problem, since I'll end up doing that anyway for the motion blur). Although that brings up a good point: I'm really not sure how he would swing his weapon. Currently the haft would probably strike the ground as he swings, but honestly that's the best I can come up with. I could do a stabbing animation, but that kinda defeats the purpose of having an axe.

I think the motion/direction itself right now is currently fine, but I disagree that you would need both hands to shift grip on the weapon. I think it is feasible for him to shift his grip on the weapon one-handed.

Suggest you edit the base frame to make the axe haft shorter, or make the shield a buckler that leaves the hand free to hold tthe axe to strike - one way or the other, htat is NOT a one-handed axe, and trying to make it one wth the animation will look silly.

My thoughts also.

@Hulavuta: any preferences as to whether I shorten the axe handle or modify the shield?

Well it's level 2 and 3 form wield a spear and a trident, which are stabbing weapons. Additionally, the Sprite DOES contain a spear at the top of the axe if you look close enough. So, no need to change the base sprite, his weapon is going to be pierce anyway. Would a one handed spear be realistic? The Clasher has one.

Also, uh, what does "dfo" mean?

A stabbing motion would probably be better, although I can't help but feel that it kinda defeats the purpose of having that giant axeblade... oh well, I guess it's the best solution, although by no means perfect.

Blocking. Different people do it different ways, and crazy colours make it easy to differentiate various body parts without colouring them finally. It's a skill I have yet to develop, I tend to block by simple select/slide.

Oh, that. I tend to name my files the first thing that comes into my head, whether it's a meaningless jumble of symbols or a quote from Shakespeare. This time it happened to be a meaningless jumble of symbols.

Ah yes, blocking. I've seen several ways to do it, but I like this way best because, even though it's the most work blocking-wise, it best portrays the motion and shape of the unit, and then when the motion's done all I have to do is shade it. Blocking is basically a time-saver, that allows you to 'preview' the animation with much less work.

Shaded. I'm still not sure about the eyes, do you want them glowing red honestly? Right now there's mild yellow
glow. Also, as you can imagine the boxed area is 400x500 pixels, so we either crop it down or you can use the portrait scaled down as a whole to that size.
