Re: This is how the Dwarves lost Moria
I tried, against the AI(ok) with dark adepts, always going backwards to heal, i had a ghoul to make the go backwards and don't ovewhelm me and some archers on hills, i had a ghost to finish some drakes with melee. As you said that's really interesting and challenging somehow, anyway they got me ...

That's sweet! I'm going to go start a game now with a friend, and do a goblin spam vs a zombie/bat spam! Hopefully I'll get a good screenshot and replay.

Re: This is how the Dwarves lost Moria
How about zombie spam vs ruffian spam (no bats included)? Or maybe it should be zombie spam vs peasant and woodsman spam (the second unit to make up for WCs having the plague ability.) No, I have not tried it, and I am not likely to have the time soon. For all I know, somebody else has tried it.
That reminds me, I need to do some more work on my programming in my free time.

No idea - can't do any of those in mainline MP. But my suspicion would be that zombie spam vs any level 0 would result in zombie apocalypse - the level 0s simply couldn't kill more than 1 zombie before dying, and that means the zombies win.

I think if you could recruit lv0 mudcrawlers they'd do quite alright against zombies.

Re: This is how the Dwarves lost Moria
I think it might be a little more than just "alright." Mudcrawlers have a high resistance to impact, despite their lack of a melee attack, while being able to hit the zombies from out of range and with no penalty to their attack (although the WCs can hit them in close combat just fine- but with greatly reduced damage.)Orin wrote:I think if you could recruit lv0 mudcrawlers they'd do quite alright against zombies.

Only one way to test that out. Anyone up for a game? It'd take 2 minutes to make the era.

In a test era, the mudcrawlers won overwhelmingly, due to two reasons:
-undead_variation=null (that's right, mudcrawlers may be vulnerable to poison, but they can't zombify)
-cost=5
There first part is fixed, but I'll need some input for the second.

Re: This is how the Dwarves lost Moria
As far as level 0 units requiring upkeep goes, a clean way to go about that without radically affecting the mechanics would be to have every X amount of lvl zeroes requiring 1 gold. This way, small numbers of level 0s wouldn't be affected, but it would make it harder to spam large amounts of them.
The RNG helps those who help themselves.
Re: This is how the Dwarves lost Moria
Well, with the plague working and cost upped to 10, the mudcrawlers still own the zombies. Actually, they beat them faster than when they cost 5.
This has two reasons:
-experience is spread over fewer units
-no NR-levels of units to wait on (over 80 mudcrawlers at the end)
Other conclusions:
-the AI sucks at capturing villages

Re: This is how the Dwarves lost Moria
I'm the one who recommended 5 for mudcrawlers, back when WCs cost 6.
BTW, I've played WCs vs. Peasants, WCs win easily.
