I think chainmail legs would be better.

It seems to me that while the plate armor looks good, the actual chainmail looks kind of two dimensional. More highlights there would be nice.

You need more contrast overall, right now it looks pretty flat. You want almost white highlights on the side where the light's coming from, and make it get darker as the armor curves around his sides. And I'm not sure where you're going with this, but I thought I'd point out that he's facing the viewer directly, while most sprites are usually facing the lower right.

Texture. Good.
Lighting. Not so good.

As soon as you get into the habit of making more contrast, we should see some really good stuff from you :D

Still needs more contrast. You want to get much darker where the light would be blocked by the clothing/body, and lightest on the points that would be least blocked by the body. Just as an example, I used the evils known as burn and dodge to create a quick example of what I'm talking about:

It looks good, but the legs seem to be a lot darker than my version. Isn't armor supposed to have stronger highlights?

Yes, but it was a quick edit to demonstrate the contrast. I couldn't brighten the highlights up with the dodge tool without messing up your texture.

Actually I can't really see any problems with artisticdude's version lightingwise. Except from the white streak running down the torso.

I have had a similar idea for a game made using the Wesnoth engine where you would take over territories and recruit squads instead of single units, they would use the swarm attack thing. It was based on Risk and also the early Rom games.

I have tons of ideas (as usual) and even some really lame and non-functional Python coding for a prototype of the map-board bits if that helps. I haven't given up upn the project, I just had other things to do and got distracted. I'd gladly let you take whatever good ideas I had if you can use them.
Thanks, I could use them. I am going to make a campaign out of these and I have a few ideas, but not enough for a very large campaign (maybe 3-5 scenarios). I will probably code a trial scenario and stick it up in the Scenario Forum for critique and other ideas. Any help in any apartment will be vastly appreciated. :D
I like the idea, I would like to offer my help wherever I can if you want. I don't mind coming up with idea's, coding units and other such things or anything else you can think of.

Glad someone thinks that this is not a crazy idea. Feel free to come up with whatever you can. :D

BTW, I'll PM you the units I've done.

Thanks Telaron, I'll give it my best shot :D

I have created a thread in the Campaign Development Section, I figure it was easier than posting off topic stuff here and when we get a scenario going then people can download it easily.

How about changed the appearance of the healer? So that instead of being a person its a wagon which takes the wounded soldiers and replaces them with healthy ones? In the period they did have wagons which took away the wounded so there's no reason why we can't use a bit of artistic license, just a thought.

It's not that much really, it just sounds a lot.
