The crystals and shrooms at the bottom look very saturated in color. Most of the other stuff looks very pillow-shaded, but the armour looks nice and the stairs look OK. If I were you I would base a unit on that armour suit.

The red-tipped magic wand looks like a matchstick.
Not sure how you would fix it though. Sorry I can't actually be helpful...

More scenery. I know most of it's probably pillowed, but I can't seem to overcome that fault very easily.

You're using waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many shades of the same color.

Pillow pillow pillowing. It's everywhere. It's not that hard to overcome. Simply stop making things get darker towards the edges, and lighter in the middle.

Well, thanks for the tip. Though somehow I don't think I'll be cured overnight, unfortunately. I wish I could change my username, it's kind of embarrassing. Don't know what I was thinking when I registered... ah, well. Maybe I'm better off sticking to campaign design, for now anyway.

No! Don't give up! You have great linework, and an eye for cool things, you just need to educate yourself on your weaknesses! (Which, suprise, everyone needs to do!)
Re: artisticdude's art, critique welcome
Art is all about trial and error and several erroneous works are better, than nothing at all, because right now you've got a plenty of ground to work on. Trust me, if you give up now, that's the moment, you throw a bucketful of dung over your username and if you do that - then you should be truly embarrased. Read - my - lips... Do - not - quit.artisticdude wrote:Well, thanks for the tip. Though somehow I don't think I'll be cured overnight, unfortunately. I wish I could change my username, it's kind of embarrassing. Critique hurts, but it has to hurt a bit. Think it like this: how is a child supposed to learn not to play with a hot stove, if he hasn't burned his fingers first? It seems, that pillowing is the prime concern in your works - now you just have to learn, how to "not burn your fingers" with pillowing. It may be an overnight thing - it may not be, but I guess, you've got a plenty of resources about what pillowing is.
In fact I'd propose, that don't make anything new right away. Instead look back at your previous works and try fixing them. Try, play, go wacky. Seek out the devils one by one, hunt them down and kill them... and sooner than you realize, you'll find you're a bit more skilled and peasants rejoice.
Push on, my friend, one pixel at a time. Find references from the real world ir from other artists and try to duplicate them. One of the best ways to learn is to mimic others.
BTW: I think, you're quite close to something with the chest (4th from right) - it looks genuinely wooden
Hopefully this helps and Good Luck

Re: artisticdude's art, critique welcome
I don't mind the critique (read my signature if you don't believe me), it's just that I feel hopelessly lost in pillows, er... pillow shading. Okay, I'll keep practicing, sorry for being such a hmmhmm, I'm just beginning to realize how dumb I was to pick that username, as a beginning artist. But hopefully I can live up to it in time. To be honest, maybe I'm just not putting enough time into my art.

Blah. Okay, I'm out of the low point. Thanks for the support, guys. To work!

I suggest maybe taking a bit of time to do some ooffline sketching and think about the way light reacts with forms.
Remember, the brightest point on the item is halfway between the light source and the camera.

Okay, I know it's gotta be at least slightly pillowed, but this is an improvement, right?

More contrast is needed. Both color and tone. He's not pillowed, but now he has barely any lighting at all.

Re: artisticdude's art, critique welcome
Actually, it remains slightly pillowed because the lightsource is still just about in front. However, it looks a lot more three-dimensional. Nice work.
Bigger size. More contrast. GO.

His proportions are good, but his shield is too small.
