Heart attack XD
It looks good I guess since WINR. The tail seems to flip to the front (under the foot) awfully fast. Maybe one more frame before the final one? It could just be the speed of the gif though.

Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
I wonder whether a roll over sideways would be better than a fall over backwards. WINR and all, but it seems like it would work better to me.

Yes, I think the same.
Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
I followed Gambit's suggestion of adding another frame to the "fall backwards" death animation. I also have begun development of the Giant Rat falling onto its side. Below are the two animation for comparison. From now on, should I pursue the Giant Rat falling onto its back or side?

I personally prefer the side one...
the other one is a bit too humanoid for me... it has a mickey mouse feel to it.

Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
You can keep both anims and show one of them randomly
Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
What about:
first and second frame - rat rising on his hind legs;
third and following frames - rat falling to his side, not back?

Yeah, the rolling is better, but it isn't very large or impressive right now, and continuing off the defense animation does look best.

Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
Looks like the community preference (to put it lightly) is leaning toward the side of the Giant Rat croaking on his side. Therefore I have been working to alter the blocky "side death" animation to intermesh with the pre-existing defense animations. Should I finish both animations so that one of them will play at random when the Giant Rat dies?

Looks good. I think it's the only one we need.

I have completed coloring the frames. Here is the completed death animation for the Giant Rat. Tell me if you see any room for improvement.

Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
Sorry for nitpicking. It looks for me like a goalkeeper throwing himself to catch the ball. I have imagined it in slightly different way. Frames 1-4 are the same as yours, frames 5-7 are how would see it. Of course this is your design and animation so I'm going to shut up.
Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
Hey Mefisto,
I really like your suggestion! You pointed out a possibility that I had missed. I believe that if I follow your template, I can create a better graphic that would illustrate a grander demise befitting that of a giant among rat-kind. My membership to the Wesnoth community is rooted in learning more about the graphical and animation arts (among other things). You have demonstrated the value and power of these forums in illuminating new ideas that I had not considered. I will take your suggestion and improve the Giant Rat. Thankyou!

Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
Having used Mefisto's template as a guide, I have come up with this rough draft for a new death animation for the Giant Rat. There are some things that need fixing, but I think that it is better motion overall than my previous attempts. I have decided to include 2 speeds of the animation. Let me know what you think.

Re: Descent into Darkness Campaign: Giant Rat Revision
TBH i prefer the original version. this one looks more like a goalie's dive than that one did.
Leave it there, what you've done is fantastic. Yet another thing on my commit list. I need to write this all down somewhere...
