Re: artisticdude's sprites (critique welcome)

I'm actually tempted to suggest that this ought to become a pack horse with a driver, rather than a cart horse. And the driver (one way or the other) should be a dwarf, IIRC.

Isn't it the humans sending money to the dwarves to pay for the scepter? Wouldn't it be a human?

Is it that way around? Yeah, that's probably right, then.

Here we go, a rough sketch of the wagon itself, no horses yet. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on the general form and perspective?

Make the canvas thicker - remember, it's supported by wood arches and ribs.

Make the cart bigger- it hardly looks like a human could fit inside at this point.

It does need to be slightly larger, but if it was scaled to the sprites, it would be waaaaaaay over 72x72.

Just figuring out the size right now, so not a whole lot of shading. Any better?

It would be useful to put that on a hex for comparison's sake. It looks a bit big to me. My suggestion: make a smaller kind of wagon. It looks like you're going for an Oregon trail type of covered wagon. The problem with this is that normal size units take up at least half of a hex and the wagon would realistically fit 3+ people. This page has some roman designs, and about halfway down is one that looks pretty good. http://www.humanist.de/rome/rts/wagon.html

I hope this is helpful.

(on second thoughts, a packhorse might be easier).

I think maybe it should still be slightly thicker. Not sure weather or not they were thicker in real life, but It feels a bit more secure.

Maybe you could do an open cart.

I tried to implement the suggestions I got, especially Frogger's comment about the thinness of the cart. Is this any better? More shading on this version.

Don't forget to show the cloth dipping between the support beams, when you get to that I mean. This looks pritty good to me so far though.

I think that's better. Adding the extra beam helps. But I think there ought to be beams that go horizontally to hold the vertical ones in place, as a matter of making the structure stronger.

The wagon has now been moved to a new thread in art contributions, since there is at least one mainline campaign that uses the wagon sprite. Thanks for the suggestion, Frogger5, I'll try it out. :)
