Re: the weather has life, and can be a a enemy!
The main obstacle is that having weather effects like storms would more or less require them to have some gameplay effect, and that would mean introducing a whole new major component right next to fundamental concepts like how defense and movement works.
If on the other hand your suggestion was that people could simply use those kind of clouds for special scenery in individual scenarios or something, then sure, that's fine. I'm sure those would find some use at least in UMC.

really I image that like a village's working. But, instead of benefit, that has a punish, that the unit can't defends, unless it have a lightning conductor.
Re: the weather has life, and can be a a enemy!
I also think that may be useful to spice things on campaigns. (even if its mainline ones) and the effect is at least as intuitive as the Oasis one.
And worse case scenario, it can be used as an overlay for a magic attack (the cloud generates, launchs a few shoots and then dissipates).
Outside mainline, I think that there are various people that will find an use for it.

Purely for asthetics if anything. Asside from the fact its pretty hard to get hit by a lightning bolt, let alone multiple times. It seems like one of those ideas that would get rejected in the ideas forum for adding unwanted complexity to the game. It might add nicely to some UMC however.

Yeah, I'm thinking this won't work very well...
Although I think it would make awesome scenery (Around the a keep or mountain), I just don't see people liking the whole "get hurt not healed" thing.

Another random comment: how about letting them change the ToD-bonuses, so that:
- clear: lawful +10, chaotic -10
- thin white clouds: lawful +5, chaotic -5
- white and gray clouds (the default): lawful +0, chaotic +0
- gray clouds with rain: lawful -5, chaotic +5
- gray clouds with rain and thunder: lawful -10, chaotic +10
Then you could 'easily' adjust the ToD to balance things:
- playing a campaign on HARD where you are mostly lawful add more thunder
- playing a campaign on EASY where you are mostly lawful add more clear
Ofc, the graphics would have to be adjusted a bit to not use up all screen estate...

And that would be why Zookeeper said that it probably won't go mainline. It's too complex.
Aside from that I don't see how horrible it would be to just have some light fluffy clouds floating from hex to hex with no gameplay difference.

If you create cool storm cloud graphics, I imagine they'll see use in UMCs, to interesting effect.
If you create cool white clouds, I imagine they'll see use everywhere.

IMO, the clouds don't have to have any effect. They would be great just for mood and atmosphere. I think of some mainline missions where stormclouds like that would enhance the mood of the story and having white fluffy clouds floating around could do the same. No reason why they couldn't be just another pretty part of the scenery, mainline or no.

Very true. The random lightning bolts could be used purely for mood as well, ie not have any affect on units in the hex.catwhowalksbyhimself wrote:IMO, the clouds don't have to have any effect. Even just as an asthetic thing they face an obstacle. Items go under characters no? We need an image path mod for z index don't we?
Something like:
image=scenery/cloud-8.png~Z(+2)
Two layers above wherever the image would normally be placed. Or some such thing.

Re: the weather has life, and can be a a enemy!
if we were to do weather, it would be done through the terrain system, not via items... using the terrain mechanism it's easy to draw on any layer

Re: the weather has life, and can be a a enemy!
So there'd be a third, purely asthetic layer?
