Re: Free Orchestral Soundfonts
My Intakt version of Stormdrum / RA doesn't work with Snow Leopard, as well PLAY 1.2.5 isn't "supported" in Snow Leopard. VSL Ensemble as well doesn't work with Snow Leopard.
That's basically everything I use.
Sure, a DAW can have compatibility but without the software, there's not much use of it.

I downloaded a free thirty day trial of REAPER, but it is having trouble with those instruments. It keeps saying: Error loading media. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Free Orchestral Soundfonts
Exactly what do you mean by "those instruments"? The soundfonts or sfz/sfz+?Telaron wrote:I downloaded a free thirty day trial of REAPER, but it is having trouble with those instruments. It keeps saying: Error loading media. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Free Orchestral Soundfonts
(at the risk of running too far off topic and endangering my good name as a lurker, I feel like I should say...)
Mr. Tyler, I just want to let you know that I am not a Mac fanboy looking for a flame war or anything like that. I am a padawan* IT professional (with broad experience in the Big Three of Operating Systems) and a musician. Just haven't had the courage to seriously try composing something truly worthy of inclusion in a fantastic game like BfW. I also thoroughly agree with the basic sentiment of your discussion, so far as brand new operating systems should be worn out a bit before rushing over to upgrade. I only want to assure that Snow Leopard has been doing very well in running software compatible with previous Mac OS X releases, and is ready for composers and musicians such as yourself and others. The performance increase for Pro Tools and Logic alone is quite nice.
-----
To make sure I'm not spewing out a bunch of hot air about this, I did some research:
This thread on the VSL forums indicates that while VSL Ensemble may have a few hiccups at first with Snow Leopard, a few tweaks can make it work just fine, and an update for better performance is likely not far away.
According to the System requirements page here, Stormdrum, Play, and SD2 work fine with most of the pro sound apps listed in the "EASTWEST PLAY Host/Sequencer Compatibility Matrix". Updates are available for certain apps that bring full SL compatibility and performance, and only slight problems with a couple of the apps. Also with the 64-bit VST plugins, SL is a great way to go. I also noticed that on that table of apps, Mac OS X had the fewest issues listed of all the systems .I can possibly research further later.
-----
I hope that info is helpful for all you talented musicians. I really love your music, and that's a major reason why I love Wesnoth, too!
*for those who don't get the term "padawan", it's from Star Wars, and it refers to Jedis in training.

I will now resume lurking silently.
Re: Free Orchestral Soundfonts
This is going to sound stupid, but does anyone know how to import the instruments from West and Tyler's site into REAPER ?

Re: Free Orchestral Soundfonts
No need to import anything. Load sfz or sfz+ into a REAPER track. Click on the "File" box in the VSTi, browse for the soundfont and load it.Telaron wrote:This is going to sound stupid, but does anyone know how to import the instruments from West and Tyler's site into REAPER ?

Seriously dude, RTFM. While we definitely enocourage people to get started with making music for the game, we're not going to hold your hand through it.Telaron wrote:How do I load a sfz or sfz+ into a REAPER track?

NP. And Telaron, sorry about seeming a little testy but you're asking a lot of very basic questions, stuff you should be able to figure out for yourself. And even if you can't figure it out, this is not the place for dealing with it.Telaron wrote:Thanks!

Re: Free Orchestral Soundfonts
If anyone is curious as to what results you can expect from these samples, here is a clip. It's short and fairly crude but it should give you an idea of what is possible with some work. There's a couple of samples in there that's not on freesf2 yet (detache violins and a solo oboe), but they'll be included in the next batch of uploads.
