Wesnoth names
Which rules are there for names in Wesnoth?
For example:
Where does the necromancers' "Mal" mean ?
Are there family names, what rule(s) follow them?(Malin and Dela Keshar,Gwiti and Nati Ha'atel (surname),but Li'sar and Ana'sar ,Ro'Arthian and Ro'Sarthian(by suffix, although the letter case is ambigous becaus the great similarity)

After far too long an absence, I have returned.
According to the quiz 100% Silver Mage (85% Archmage, 75% Shyde, 67% Flameheart and Ancient Wose,58% Assassin, Troll Warrior and Berserker). And my top score is exactly how I see myself.

Mal
As for the family names, there are no established rules, so just make something up that's internally consistent and doesn't sound too earth-like.

I agree! However, I'd suggest that the 'sar Li'sar and Ana'sar may not be indicating family. That is, it may be a name particle that is passed down, but more like a middle name than a family name.
Perhaps you could compile a list of human names through the (Wesnoth) ages - you may find these helpful. That could be used to find some rules, perhaps - though most people probably don't have last names simply because it's easier that way (and realistically, they wouldn't necessarily need to use them or even have them. Medieval names often consisted of "this is where I'm from!" or "This is what I do!" or "This person was my father!" because within the small area someone usually traveled, they were the only person with that name, or one of a few.)
It could be worth asking ESR about that language thing he was working on... I can't find the link right now. Meh.

Just a brief note: it's the Ro' that the two liches from NR share - they are Ro'Arthian and Ro'Sothian.

So it is not ambigous(the Ro' was meant with ambigous). So there might be also family "prefixes" as with Germanic names: The family members' names start with a similar or same syllabe.thespaceinvader wrote:Just a brief note: it's the Ro' that the two liches from NR share - they are Ro'Arthian and Ro'Sothian.

Re: Wesnoth names
As others already mentioned, there are no hard rules about naming - as long as you're consistent within your campaign, that's fine.
