Short description of Wesnothian army.

Post by Xudo »

Wesnoth army divide to officers and other soldiers.
Officers ranks:
  • Sergeant
    Lieutinant
    General
    Grand Marshal
Other soldiers are:
Heavy infantry. This guys are really tough. There is very high chance, what their armor made from "cast iron". In other words, their clothes is big frying-pan, what easy to heat and cool.(-10% resist to fire and cold). This metal can't be smithed(too fragile), thats why blunt weapon have advantage against it(10vs impact<50vs blade||40vs pierce). Of course their choice is blunt weapon - morning star, spiked sphere on chain or without it. Heavy armor and weight of weapon don't let them hit many times, but it increase damage. (mass*9.98(?)=power. increase mass=increase power) With new experience and training(lvl up) they know how to use their mass to become more deadly in fight.

Mages. They are not scientists. Or, at least, discover nothing new and useful for simple human beigns. Their healing and teleportation too complicated for anyone except them. Mages can throw fire/arcane missiles to enemy. Looks like arcane discipline more simple, than any other. They are not powerful enough to attack enviroment or don't like to spend their power on some things. When mage become more powerful(lvl up), he(she) concentrate on battle force. They study fire or spend this time to learn morning star and constitutions of living creatures(sceletons fight?). knowledge about organisms give them power to heal living allies and shows weak points of enemy.

Mens with some polearm. Usually this guys are former peasants. Spear is cheapest weapon among all other. If newcomer survive in first battle and prove itself, he become something more, than simple meat. Wise leader give him better armor(money to by it?) and choice between sword and pike. If soldier see horseman or cavalry, he put one end of spear on earth and rise other opposite his head. This allows them perfom first strike in defence. Skilled pikeman can easily hold thin pass as long, as leader need. Their armor construct to reject pointed strikes, but it don't protect vs sharp blade or good hammer.

Bowmans. First bowman just get bad spear, it was too flexible. All bowmans of Wesnoth army have wooden bows. Noone have enough time to search more useful material for this. Noone research how to make arrows more dangerous. Noone know how orcs make flame arrows. Noone study marksmanship of elves. Because all smart people throw big bright spheres of fire in skeletons. Thats why bowmans can have harder bow and powerful muscules to stretch it and nothing more. Some people have talant and they know how to use bow. All other just exchange their weapon to less flexible spear without rope.

Mens with swords.

Horseback riders.

No offence intended, but you're not doing a brillisnt job here - the descriptions of the units themselves are much more effective, legible and useful. You're also assuming an enormous amount about a lot of things you simply don't know from the lore.

So thanks, and feel free to continue if you wish, but this is not work which is likely to see use anywhere.

It's better to stop as soon as possible, if work have no use. I'll try to find PvP guide for some MMORPG, research it's plan and write something about fencing.

:augh: I don't think you've ever fought in armor or done a lot of cooking. An suit of armor like the one the heavy infantry wears made out of cast iron would not only effectively immobilize the person wearing it but would probably break under the strain of merely trying to support itself. Cast iron also does not heat up or cool down at all quickly compared to most metals. I can almost guarantee that the suit is made out of steel which is both light and strong and has a relatively low specific heat.

Other than that I agree with TSI's comments entirely. You should work on your english some more before you seriously try this.
