Factional jack or specialist?

Factional jack or specialist?
Just 2 questions out of interest:
1) Do you primarily choose your faction or go Random?
2) Do you primarily play one faction or a group of factions, or do you play them all?
3) Why do you have this preference?
To be fair, I'll answer first:
1) I primarily go Random but occasionally choose my faction.
2) I play them all, but am thinking of picking one to specialise in just to mix things up a bit (fancy that, mixing things up by limiting myself to one faction rather than by playing more factions). The problem is, I can't decide - they all look so delicious!
3) I don't take this game very seriously and just play to have fun. Probability and randomness is a big part of this game and why I like it, so that extends to my faction selection. Just like sometimes it's fun trying to fight back after 2 units on grassland both failed a 96% ctk and are now doomed, sometimes it's fun trying to win with Drakes (hahaha!). Plus, I would get bored pretty quickly making the same recruitment and moves and manoeuvres over and over, which would inevitably happen after specialising - first comes experimentation, then comes routine.
(By the way, I lied 3 times in this post.)

Re: Factional jack or specialist?
I usually choose my faction, and typically pick either Rebel or Loyalist.
This is because I've practiced playing the most with these factions, my favorite units are largely in these factions, and I'm not that good with the others. Among other reasons.

I've never do random if I can! I don't want
to take the chance of getting drakes or undead. Knalagans are
my favorite faction, but I ocasionally play rebels. I like the assassin, it can dish out serious damage and makes archers and magi pay for attacking since it has poison. If you want to specialize, then pick them. They have cheap, speedy effective units(bandits) and slow, high damage dealing, damage taking units too(dwarves).

Re: Factional jack or specialist?
I play random. It is the most varied experience and comes with the bonus of not telling your enemy what to recruit for.

Re: Factional jack or specialist?
Although I am not equally strong with all 6 default factions, I choose random anyway as it makes it more challenging for myself to receive a faction I dislike (knalgans or undead), or as velensk said, to be random to not allow your opponent knowledge of the faction you pick.
Occasionally I will pick my faction, especially if outside a balanced 1 vs 1 map (e.g a survival) since I first started playing by always selecting drakes.

I don't think anyone is equally strong with every faction. I do however think that you can be strong with every faction to the point where your enemy not knowing which faction you are is enough of an advantage to counter out even you weakest faction of play.

1) Do you primarily choose your faction or go Random?
Before i picked all factions one by one to test them. Now i know them, i often pick loyalists. They are my favorite faction
2) Do you primarily play one faction or a group of factions, or do you play them all?
Now, i play a lot loyalist. Sometimes, i pick another faction, but i play better with loyalist.
3) Why do you have this preference?
They have more varieties units than the others factions. And, i find they have more possibilities in strategy with them.

1) I always go random, and very rarely go Undead.
2) I'm fine with all but Knalgans, but I have a huge preference for the Undead.
3) Their units are very specialized and various. They have magic attacks, poison, drain, backstab, nightstalk, submerge (bleh) and plague. The skeleton/ghost lines' resists just PWN hard. And they're awesome!

If you've never played wesnoth before you equally stink at all of them.Velensk wrote:I don't think anyone is equally strong with every faction. I imagine that regardless of how well you play any of them (or none of them) you would still preform better or worse with certain factions than others.

Re: Factional jack or specialist?
I agree with Velensk, I am new to the game and I have found that I am better with the loyalists and Knalgans compared to any of the other factions although I'm still bad at all factions

I've fine with pretty much any faction but drakes, although I usually choose Undead. Knalgans are good too.

Re: Factional jack or specialist?
1. I use random, unless it's some sorta survival, in which case I go undead or drake.
2. Because I random, I play them all
3. I choose random so that I don't give a human opponent an advantage of knowing, and to get better at playing in general, rather than faction specific strategies. In survivals, I pick undead or drake because of their interesting resistances, as well as quick killing power.

Re: Factional jack or specialist?
1. I play random in multiplayer. I just like to think on my feet like that.
2. My favorite Factions are Rebels, Drakes, and Knalgans...
3. I like to cultivate my skills in all of the factions, plus I can unravel those who pick a certain faction. Elves are the race I do best with, but if one-on-one, I choose random and you chose Rebels, I will probably own you. I don't care If I'm Undead and it's broad daylight, I'll make little necklaces out of your pointed ears. Elves aren't only the race I'm best at fighting as, they are the race I'm best at fighting against. You may still win(cause I basically suck at this game), but it would be a very hard fought victory.
