i win twelve days left t'ill high school. and i'm posting after you guys did. i suppose this means i'm going to have to do alot more work...
I suppose the college different starting days could be determined by different areas or colleges.

back on topic:
the crab already resists pierce and blade, but not impact.

i updated the descriptions and the crab damage, as well as the sting ray damage (from 8-3 to 12-3 for bash and from 8-2 to 10-2 sting) and cost
(from 24 to 28, to compensate for the damage).

i would have updated the art too, but i don't know how to make the image link to the unit.

Was just thinking about the Ray: why not make it level 1 with according stats, and have it advance into an Aether Ray or Void Ray, a supernatural beast actually holy to the Sea Dwarves? With arcane attacks, perchance.

Also, an idea about how to make them workable on land: I once saw a pic with flying manta rays - which might be cool, with the rays ascending from the waves, carrying dwarves on their backs in - and also explaining why they work on land.

As for the crab, it should be the direct damage dealer - could one code an ability that makes it inflict extra damage if it hits with both attacks? In one of those level-up-your-hero levels, I've also seen an ability inflicting collateral damage around your target, which might be fitting for a huge rampaging crab.

Hey Xandria! Glad to see a user :). Especially one with input.

However, we put the Stingray as a level 2 so it would be a good submarine unit and wouldn't level up (we already have a lot of units in the faction.) Also, I'm not personally a big fan of magical creatures so flying rays are out, and the brungar don't ride stingrays, they ride alligators/crocodiles.

That actually sounds good, the rampage thing I mean. What do the rest of you guys think? The other ability is a little to much seeing as we already have a bunch of new abilities so adding another one would make it kind of monotonous.

the rampage thing, as in it deals x damage to adjacent units at the start of its turn or as in it deals x damage to units adjacent to the attacker or the defender?

As I've seen it done, the rampaging hero did X damage to all enemies adjacent to the unit it attacked with each successful hit.

An alternate way to do the rampage thing might be that the unit activates a special no retaliation melee attack (something like 6-1) against each adjacent foe before the normal pincer attacks.

I don't know which is easier to program.

@wesfreak: i didn't give the crab impact resistance because humans use(d) rocks to break through a crab's shell irl (given that, impact seemed like what it would be most weak to), and also, if the crab has 20% impact as well, it would be very similar to the turtle's resistances again.

@Xandris: for the rampage ability, it sounds cool. but where did you see it used?

edit: out a curiosity:
1. are there plans to make a female astral ranger?
2. what happened to all the water serpant images?

You mean the art? There're several units in the Welkin faction that don't have female alternatives, not many, but some. I figured they were not needed that much as long as the males had sprites so I figured we could wait to add them till the era was nearing completion and we were fixing stuff up.

I saw it used in one of the coloseums, not the one by Platypus though.

Also, if you need some descriptions or flavor text done, I'm halfway decent at writing.

Pent, which units don't have descriptions?

You can take a try at one of 'em so we can see how you write. Try and match mine and Pent's style so they stay in the same style throughout. Take a look at the Brungar descriptions as well as the Welkin descriptions for reference.

Also they need to be at least 5 lines long (on wordpad).

first off: whats a testudine (its in the sea turtle descriptions, so i can probably guess, but has anyone else heard of that word before)?

units that need more length in their description:
the council line except the high council member
harpoon guard, harpooneer
undecided student
wave master
units that need a description:
herbalist, practitioner

i can have the wave master and the council line done by tomorrow.

I haven't but I'd never heard of neophyte before either :P. As long as means turtle or something.

Xandria, why don't you try the Undecided Student or the Harpooneer.

Alright Pent, I look forward to reading them.

i suppose rampage would be useful when surrounded, or when there is a unit that's shielding injured ones.also maybe when attacking a line up.

how bout 10 damage to each of the units on the side per hit? so it does half damage. or maybe just 5, if 10 is too much.

I wrote it, so I might as well give you guys the definitionish thing.

Turtles are... Lemme remember last year's biology and taxonomy courses... Order Testudine (is that right?), along with tortoises, terrapins, and similar dome-shelled reptiles. Just a fancy scientific way to say turtle tortoise thingy. Omit it if you want...

And Neophytes have nothing to do with turtles or reptiles. Neophyte means "new believer" or "new worshipper" or something along those lines. Newcomer. Noob. Initiate. Whatever.
