Chocobone (WIP)

Post by A-Red »

Update (Most recent version):
Image

Hey all, I'm working on the Chocobone and have the basic skeletons drawn up. I based the mount off of a diatryma rather than a true chocobo--I'm not terribly familiar with Final Fantasy, and I think this fits the faction pretty well while still keeping the same basic idea. At this size, it may not be much of a distinction anyway.

Obviously it still needs a lot of accoutrement--saddle, halberd, armor for rider and mount, and more team color--but I thought I'd run it by you guys at this stage.

The connection between head and neck needs to be something other than a right angle, but otherwise, to me, this looks excellent. Nice work.

The torso of the rider skeleton seems directly aimed at the camera while the rest of its body is in 3/4 view thus making him seem a bit contorted. The chocobone's legs should be a bit more apart so that it doesn't look like something you'd see in a platformer. The skeleton rider's leg seems to be a mass without joints.

Generally, this is looking great; however the bird needs a lot more butt.

It is, however, worth bearing in mind that a LOT of that butt is feathers... There would be very little skeleton past the hip girdle, there really aren't a lot of bones in tails.

Don't forget: the Chocobone should have a piercing weapon. Perhaps one should be visible?

My mistake. It's all good :)

Why don't you just open the "Chocobone" unit with an art program, like GIMP or IcoFX, and remove the skeleton on it? I have done it myself a week or so ago, but I am on the wrong computer to upload it. :annoyed:

I'll bring it up when I use the right computer.
Why are you wasting your time reading this when you are here for the forums?

Because this is a replacement for the old chocobone, not a version of the mount.

Indeed, we're trying to build completely new sprite here, not redesign the old one.

Sithras, I suggest you spend a little more time lurking on the forums before you start weighing in on topics you don't really understand.

If you're redoing the whole unit, why not change the funny chocolicious name as well? I know a lot of ppl here like things to stay the way they are used to, but personally I find it a bit of a shame that BfW needs to borrow something from a commercial japanese game :geek:

Damn it! Sorry, but... Chocobones areb't unique... They're not. They're in Egoboo as well. And in some other games, too (can't remember names).

Also, what is the commerical Japanese game where is a Chocobone? :o I've never heard of that it would be Japanese.
....

Anyway.
Looking SO awesome! :D
Looks like a dodo bird. xD

Oh, oops. I forgot what a dodo looks like, when I said it looks like one.

On topic:
Hmm, I just noticed, in the riderful version, the fist of the driver looks like a adam's apple of the chocobone. xD
