Is it against copyrights to make red Elves? I mean, like blood Elves of some sort. Their name could be anything, it's just the color I'm asking about. I'll make some for Mystic era if I can.

I believe Warcraft has the copyright on BLOOD Elves, not Elves Who Wear Red. Just make sure your ones don't look too much like the Blood Elves.

For an example of two people who wear red and look completely different, compare Gwiti Ha'atel (or Darken Volk, who borrowed his portrait) to that Red Mage from UtbS.

No, it's not. If you tried to make a Blood Elf faction obviously based on the Warcrack Blood Elves, that would be a problem. But a faction of elves who wear red? Nope.

Are Blood Elves really copyrighted by Blizzard?
I remember them being included in the world of Earthdawn, a P&P-roleplaying-game that should be older than Warcraft.

Just because I read this lately: Space Marines were even depicted by Heinlein in "Starship Troopers". It's really a very common idea in sci-fi, though.

I do not know if WoW can even reliably claim a copyright on Blood Elves. While yes, the idea should be avoided as it can potentially cause problems, that would be like one author accusing another of stealing his terminology of dark elves, wood elves, high elves or anything of the like.

If you're using the ideas of a renegade group of Elves splitting off from the main group to find new sources of magic to fulfill their arcane addictions after their Sunwell was destroyed by a Death Knight, a group of Elves who have eyes that glow green and thirst for magic all the time, then yes, that is copyrighted material.

But a group of elves wearing red called the Blood Elves isn't.

I think the op was not asking about wearing red, but elves with red skin.

I think this would be fine. Just don't call them blood elves.

Infact its stupid people who will call the flag on a copyright violation when you haven't copied.

Probably a good idea to call them something other than elves, just to be safe.

Hmm, I have noticed, like many others, but they haven't reported this, but in Brotherhood of Light, there is a guy named "Kaspian". And I think (I'm not sure) it's copyrighted. I mean, it's the prince's name that is in Narnia...

Somehow I doubt the "Kaspian" name is copyrighted, so long as the guy isn't meant to be the Prince Kaspian and doesn't share too many of his features.
