heavy infantry portrait(wip)

Post by BLM »

Right now it is just an empty suit of armor with flats and little shading. So how is it? Methinks the lines need improvement.

The head's too large in relation to the body. The HI line should be BUILT. Like, world's strongest man contestant big. And that needs to show in the armour. Similarly, his upper arms are much too narrow, even for his current proportions.

That aside, try to get your lines a little smoother, and add some more details showing how the armour fits together. Using some reference material for that would probably be helpful.

It's a nice start, keep it up =)

I went for a redraw because as spaceinvader said it looks puny. I mean the arms look like they are covered with flexible plastic pipes. :lol2:
So here is the redraw. On the right arm I'm going to fix the first extension coming out of the shoulders and overall clean up the lines.

The visor is about the right size, but a head indeed is more than just a face. ;)
His chest now looks too thin to support such arms. (and armor)

His body is too straight, even armor differs in places. Also, some armor details on the front would make it look better.

Keep up the good work.

I'd very much suggest you try drawing with a good reference, to get the proportions and the armour right.

Take a look at the links here. This page in particular has pretty good stuff. Or just google for "medieval armour" or "renaissance armour", that seems to bring up a lot of good pictures too.

The heavy infantryman really should be built like Shwartzeneger. ( I know I spelled the name wrong)

No, no. He should be built like a construction worker. Fit, but not muscle-bound. Strong, but not handsomely strong. He should not look like a professional body builder, but rather like an Olympic weightlifter.

I'm actually working on my own sketch for a heavy infantryman portrait. (well more of a concept art than a portrait because it isn't the right size.)

My Concept of the Shock trooper. I know its not perfect and it nowhere near the quality of major art contributers like kitty. Keep in mind that I drew this freehand in english class after I finished a test.

I think the only part I could draw of this (freehand or not) is the signature. lol

Anyway, I think it's good. Something's a little weird about his right arm in how he holds the mace (I don't think the human arm can do that). The Hand is vertical while the arm is going down.

Also the shield isn't straight. And his right foot is facing sw while his leg is facing directly south.

Other then that it looks good to me. :D

I'm currently shading this in and I'll post the finished drawing when I'm done. I also mean to color it in on the computer, where I can also fix the crooked lines and stuff.
