New Level 0 Unit: Light Cavalrymen

Post by eisfrei » August 20th, 2008, 12:20 am

I don't know if this idea was already suggested, but I would really like to see a Level 0 Cavalry Unit for the Human Loyalists. I haven't got good ideas for the name, because I'm from Germany and my English isn't good enough.
But I was thinking about a weaker Horseman wich can advance into either a Horseman or a Cavalryman.

I already did a first edit how he could look like.
And in comparison the Horseman.
--> in the Attachments...

Cost: 10 or 11
HP: 20 or 22
MP: 6 or 7
XP: 25

8 - 1 melee (pierce) (charge)

If "charge" is too precious for a level 0 Unit we could give him a
7 - 2 melee (pierce)
or
9 - 1 melee (pierce)
Attack instead.
But I still would agree if someone said both Attacks are too good for a Level 0 Unit.

So if anyone has got ideas for the name or has other suggestions, your welcome.

I believe Ken Oh has an era like this, and the unit is a Squire. You could ask him for advice on the attack, name, cost, etc. Or you could just download his era if he releases it.

(I don't know if he is still working on it.)

I shrinked the size of the horse a bit and transformed the spear into a complete wooden one.

Yeah, it's a cool project. Thanks for the note.

The armour still seems a little grand for a L0 unit - perhaps he should be wearing a tunic instead of a hauberk?

Exactly, I already thought of doing this.

Now I did a version with a kind of tunic except the right arm. I thought the arm with the weapon could have some armory. And I will call my unit Squire for now.

I going to further discuss this unit in this thread:

But I will still post my new edits here, like this new one.
I removed the TC from the right arm.

There will be no new units or factions aded to the default era, read the big sticky at the top of Ideas forum for explanation. You're welcome to continue working on this, maybe some UMC author will take it on, but it'll not be added to the loyalists.

I know...
Maybe I should have posted it in the "Faction & Era Contributions" section.

This Unit fits beautifully into the work Ken Oh started to give each unit a L0 one. I will continue to post there and maybe someone will pic it up for his Era.

Make animation for when it falls...

The best way to learn is to follow. In order to learn WML, you have to follow other's work, and check their codes.

Yes, I'm planning to. Either I make it similar to the cavalryman death animation or I make my own. I'm thinking about letting him falling of the horse ... a bit similar to the death animation of the lieutenant. (- Ever seen it? :) )

Here are the new animation frames with fixed mane. (darker and shorter)

Nice unit :D
Could you post the png and cfg files in a zip so I could use it in my era?
I especially like your first one
