How about an anvil and a hammer (plus the shield maybe)? The wesnoth devs are hammering the dev version of wesnoth into the next release...

Well, talking about hammers I meant something like this (my picture is terrible, of course, just the idea):

anyways you can get stuff very small and still tell what it is if you use the right technique. for example, Wesnoth sprite art.
This is true. But the basic problem there is that I'm lazy :P

For fun I made a clockwork shield. It's not very distinguishable from the normal one.

The wireframe idea isn't so bad.

I just personally don't like hammers.

Maybe I don't want to imply that developers are dwarves :hmm:

I don't even use the dev release anyway...

IMO you need to cut out more of the shield. It seems odd how the bend in the cut (you know, it goes up then diagonally) isn't in the center.

I should make some more gears / fix them, but I'm not even sure if it's possible for this concept to work.

It's not perfect yet, but it works for me yeah.

imo it should do a color switch too, for more instant recognizability. (and green being the symbol of growth and youth)

Yeah, that looks much better IMO. Cool.

Looking good. Any chance you could sharpen the gears? Currently they're noticeably blurrier than the shield.

Gears under the shield works nicely for me. One less thing for me to do. :D

Slight necromancy, but is there anything in this thread that the artsy people find good enough to be used for the next dev-release? I still think it's a good idea and obviously I can't draw a good enough version myself :)

Does this suck? I found the cool hammer from google and tried to edit it more "cartoony" but I think it isn't good... And I redded the shield a bit. I just wanted to make something...
Check out my sprites!

At least one of the hammer's heads isn't aligned with the handle. Also, IMO the text itself shouldn't have been edited. Perhaps you should have made the hammers first, then put the shield on, and then the text?

I cannot find it, but a while back there was just the icon for this - the wesnoth shield with gears in it. It was not a favorite at the time, but I liked it quite a lot. :)
