Several levels of this campaign feature alternative objectives - easier ones, and difficult ones marked as Heroic.

Do I actually get something for completing a Heroic objective?

Money. Early finish bonus.

Well, let me rephrase: for example at Fallen Lich Point, I can just run to the catacombs, and not bother with the orc bosses, though killing them is denoted as "heroic" - but I need only to run to win. Killing the boss would take some three more turns, actually COSTING money. Do I get anything to compensate, except for an ego boost?

I've answered already: You receive early finish money. You don't receive 'em otherwise. Have you ever tried to look into the scenario cfg?
