Wesnoth 1.3.19

Post by ivanovic »

Wesnoth 1.3.19 is out!

This is the second release candidate for 1.4. It is very likely that this is the last release candidate for 1.4 and that the final 1.4 release will be out very soon. Expect 1.4 by the beginning of march 2008.

The most notable change for this release is the new build method for the Windows binary. The compiler was updated which might lead to some strange problems. If you experience any new problems with the windows binary, don't hesitate to report them. Of course it would be nice to get positive feedback if things work as expected.

Beside this the most noticeable change is probably that we now show an overlay in the editor to mark the half hexes, that are not accessible ingame. This allows content creators to get a better idea of how the map will really look like.

When compiling with the "lowmem" option, there are no more animations shown with this release. This should reduce the amount of memory used by several MB. If you don't have to use this option because otherwise the game would not work at all, do not use it.

This release does not have many changes beside those mentioned above. If you want to see a rather complete list (not 100% complete, some devs tend to forget adding entries) have a look at the changelog. A changelog with the changes that might be visible to most users (and only includes these) is the players_changelog.

Check http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7034 for info on using xdelta.

The Windows binary is already available You can find it on the download page.

The MacOSX binary is already available You can find it on the download page.

The OpenSolaris binary is already available You can find it on the download page.

Beside those the binaries for Debian (currently just in 'incoming') as well as the ebuilds for Gentoo (hardmasked) are already updated and probably available via the normal package manager. All the other known packagers have been contacted. Information about where to get the respective binaries or how to get them work you get on the Linux binaries site for the Linux binaries. Download links for the other supported systems will be listed at the downloads page once the binaries are available.

As a fallback you can also get the sources from http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files through SourceForge to help us save bandwidth.

The multiplayer server for 1.3.19 is already up and running. In fact it is exactly the same server as for 1.3.18 and you should experience no problems when playing with 1.3.18 users and watching their replays. If you do encounter problems, please report them.

By now the add-on server already offers some content that should be completely compatible with 1.3.18, 1.3.19 and the upcoming 1.4. If you encounter any problems with content not working as expected, please notice the content's author, most of them should be here in the forums.

If you find any bugs don't hesitate to report them, but please read the instructions on how to post bugs first. Instructions for bug reporting can be found at http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs.

Enjoy!

PS: Bugreports in the forums tend to get forgotten. So better follow the guidelines and report them in the bugtracker.

Two comments on the windows binary:

The python dll claims to be 2.5, but it is actually 2.4. Why? Well, to make a long story short: Mist and i choosed this way so you don't have to wait another day  . For the final 1.4 release it will have the right name.

The multiplayer server doesn't start in it's own dos box anymore and we couldn't figure out on the fly why that is so. It appears in the task manager, however, so if you want to use it, start it via the usual start menu entry and if you don't need it anymore shoot down the process in the task manager. We hopefully will find out soon what happened and get the dos box back.

That's it for the moment. Despite Ivanovic's comment, we expect the windows binary to be stable, since it has been tested already by Gallifax with the last version and makes a good impression so far.

Have fun :)

In the Downloads page, the Mac version still says "current version 1.1.18" (same as previous version) while the file actually points to the 1.1.19 binary.. I wouldn't have noticed without passing the mouse over the link..

This really isn't a "bug", but while downloading the Windows binary the download stopped because it said that the file was corrupted, and yet the third time I tried it worked fine and I have installed it fine. Any ideas?

New mac os x binaries are ready, with translations that work (at least on my powerpc) and no crashes.
