Windsong Sprites

Post by megane »

I'm putting all the sprites up here at the beginning so they can be easily perused; if I feel up to it, I'll put the tree up in the Factions forum and actually build a faction for these.

Feel free to comment on any and all, or to use them for yourself if you want them.

Quite good for a first sprite I'd say, welcome to the boards!

I'd like to see more of your work, you deem promising.

The only critism I'd have is that the transition from her coat to the gown under it seems harsh and a bit darker than I'd expect it to be, it'd probably look smoother if that was changed around a bit;

I can change it a bit if you'd like.

Stylistic!

But in a way i like, she looks oriental.

What kind of faction would it be if you decided to continue?

I'm fairly certain it's gonna be an oriental faction.

I already have a samurai you can use though, if it is :D

-edit-

Hey wait, Megane I -know that name-!

You where my partner in that awesomely unbalanced-yet-somehow-balanced-by-stupidity- cave-based mp game!

Like this? I lightened the gown transition and anti-aliased the lines to each side; they looked very sharp before.

As for the faction... I didn't specifically intend for them to end up Orientally flavored (mmm, wasabi), but I guess there are vaguely Taoist in nature, and my art style certainly tends to have an eastern tinge. They're the Windsong, a bunch of very strange mages who feel it's their duty to record and, if necessary, maintain the flow of history. To that end, they alternately sit in their towers for centuries on the one hand, and go on huge crusades against any empire that grows too powerful (and thus ceases to be interesting) on the other.

Mechanically, they're all fairly weak when it comes to pure numbers and have almost no "fighters" per se, so fighting with them requires you to make good use of their abilities; the Scribe above, for instance, does 3-6 slow, which is fairly weak for a mage, but quite useful if applied correctly.

Edit: nice samurai, though; I totally want to make a Japanese faction just so I can use those! xD

Edit once again: Heck yes I was. Heavy infantry in caves ftw O.o"

I knew my question wasn't a stupid one

Nice concept, what other units are you thinking of having?

Make more, he says... I say: voila, a Seeker. It's probably the closest thing the Windsong get to a standard fighter, but it's actually more of a scout than anything else. Attacks: melee blade 4/4 and melee pierce 6/2, give or take a bit.

As for what units I'm making, I wrote up a tree, but I'm not sure about it. I am, however, definite about the 5 recruitable units: the Scribe (mage), Seeker (scout/fighter), Courier (cavalry? he rides, well, a floating rock), Weaver (archer/healer), and Gatekeeper (defensive fighter, does especially well in towns/castles).

Edit: fixed a bunch of nasty bad type things with the arms and hands.

I had always imagined a unit I wanted to make. Your unit has the exact same pose and spear as the unit in my mind!!

Nice work, by the way. :)

A promising start indeed - welcome to the Wesnoth forums!

As a quick pointer, some of your exterior edges seem to be too hard (ie, black lines). Perhaps you can soften them using the same technique you used on the gown transition.

Very nice work.

Danny_California, do not exhibit your work here. There are plenty of other threads devoted to your "handiwork". If you post here, I ask that an art mod delete the post immediately. Hijacking a thread containing decent artwork will make me very unhappy.

:D I love it when new people show promise. This stuff is good.

PS. Ditto what Dubh said.
