Wesnoth in Slovakia
First, I am curious how many Slovak speaking players, or players living in Slovakia are here in forums. Second -- if I get a nonzero answer -- are there any ideas on how to promote Wesnoth in Slovakia / in Slovak language? Let's drop some ideas...
(sk)
No, asi môžeme dať niekomu echo, že hra existuje, prÃÂpadne poslať krátke tlačové vyhlásenie. Komu?
Je Å¡anca niečo pretlačiť do papierových médiÃÂ? Alebo aspoň dostať tlačové vyhlásenie do TASR či SITA? To by bolo cool...

You do not feel single ... Here, in Argentina, I am single totally… I have not seen other argentinians presents in Wesnoth's forums nor playing.Viliam wrote:First, I am curious how many Slovak speaking players, or players living in Slovakia are here in forums. It's not much better here in Czech Rep. - forum has 13 users, and no one posted in some 3 months or so. (BTW, of these 13, 2 are translators (kind of supposed to be there anyway) and 2 never posted anything.) I guess this is because 1) people are not willing to try and look for forums, 2) language barrier (concerning this forum) and maybe also 3) game has excellent singleplayer mode, thus some do not take any interest in MP (like me).

No, asi môžeme dať niekomu echo, že hra existuje, prÃÂpadne poslať krátke tlačové vyhlásenie. Komu?

I just wanted to do a reality check. Maybe there are hundreds of Slovakians here, but they all write in English, so I never noticed. Well, maybe not hundreds...Lord_of_Wesnoth wrote:You do not feel single ... Here, in Argentina, I am single totally… I have not seen other argentinians presents in Wesnoth's forums nor playing.
Asi hej.
(...) Parada! Potom prosim pridaj linku na wiki.Xandria wrote:Mam moznost posunut recenziu sefredaktorovi GamesWebu, a pricinit sa svojou presvedcivostou o jej zverejnenie.

More difficult still to detect them if they do not identify the Location in the profile.Viliam wrote:I just wanted to do a reality check. Well, according to Google, Prague is the Wesnoth capital of the world: http://www.google.com/trends?q=wesnothVS wrote:It's not much better here in Czech Rep.

Cool. Prague / Czech Rep is surely the #1 in the results... I just wonder how to interpret the remaining data:
In the list of regions, Slovakia is #2, though the differences against the following places are very small. However, neither does Slovak appear in the list of languages, nor is any Slovakian city in the list of cities. How could you explain this?
The first guess about languages is that many people in Slovakia use English OS or browser settings (not sure what does Google detect as "language"), and this is more frequent for IT people; and also Wesnoth is more popular among IT people. Another guess is that there are a few Hungarian speaking Wesnoth players in Slovakia -- this would also explain why Hungarian language has moved to #2.
The guess about cities is that while in other countries the Wesnoth players are concentrated in a few big cities, in Slovakia they are more evenly distributed. This guess is compatible with the previous "Hungarians in Slovakia" explanation, and IMHO not very compatible with "IT people" explanation (it may be just a prejudice, but I guess majority IT people live in Bratislava).
The problem is, these are all just wild guesses. And if I try to run some more detailed query (such as: cities in Slovakia), it prints me that "Your terms - wesnoth - do not have enough search volume to show graphs."
EDIT: Of course, "playing Wesnoth" and "searching for Wesnoth in Google" are not the same thing...
By the way, it might be a good idea to launch a cs-sk Wesnoth multiplayer server...

Exactly. It may be also general lack of community or inability to form one... who knowsViliam wrote:EDIT: Of course, "playing Wesnoth" and "searching for Wesnoth in Google" are not the same thing...
Good idea, but I don't know who would run it. I'd suggest you write to our translation mailing list, IIRC maintainer has a server, maybe he would be able to host.Viliam wrote:By the way, it might be a good idea to launch a cs-sk Wesnoth multiplayer server...

Of the people I regularly play with 2 are slovak and 5 are czech. LoW I have met an argentinian once on server, so there is at least one other.
Of course i would say on average wesnoth is 30% north american 50% random european and 10% other.
just the impression of one dirty capitalist pig-dog.
