Wesnoth 1.1.9 (aka Wesnoth 1.2 beta2)

Post by isaac »

Wesnoth 1.1.9 is out!

1.1.9 is our second beta for the forthcoming 1.2 release.

1.1.9 contains important bugfixes that should improve the playing experience. It also contains lots of translation updates.

You can check details at the changelog.

Downloads:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... z?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 5?download

You can get the XDelta between 1.1.8 and 1.1.9 source code:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... rce.xdelta

Check http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7034 for info on using xdelta.

As a fallback you can also get files from
http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files
through SourceForge to help us save bandwidth.

devsrv.wesnoth.org:14999 will soon be ready to be used for multiplayer games

Instructions for bug reporting can be found at
http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs

Packages for Debian are already available at Debian mirrors.

The Mac OS X build is already available at:
Standard http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... g?download
Lite http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... g?download

The Windows packager has already been noticed.

Enjoy!

gentoo ebuilds are ready too !

as usual you can find them at:
http://www.dorf.cc/priv/markus/wesnoth-dev.tbz
http://www.dorf.cc/priv/markus/wesnoth-svn.tbz

at the moment you have to unmask freetype-2.2 in gentoo
to use it because dependencies have changed to fix the memory leaks
with freetype-2.1

have fun playing

Are you sure? It compiles and runs with out any obvious font problems with freetype-2.1.10-r2. Do you mean that I just have to deal with memory leaks or something will break eventually?

Gentoo's package.mask says about freetype-2.2
package.mask wrote: removes internal API headers, breaks stuff that depends on internals
Given the long list of dependancies on freetype I'd rather not go breaking everything else on my system to play wesnoth.

* added profile key to female thief to prevent use of male image
What does that mean? You can choose use female leaders instead of male ones?

No, it just means that the female thieves don't get the male thief portraits. It would be nice though to have someone who'd want to write player-readable versions of the changelogs.

Start top in a terminal, start Wesnoth in another terminal seesion, click on the credits and watch them for 5 mins. Have a look at your mem usage. Will be at >200MB only for Wesnoth. The mem leak happens at *hundreds* of places since it is related to printing fonts. This is only the place where you see it easyly. This leak is the reason that Wesnoth will use all of your ram after playing for lets say 3 hours. So good luck with this borked version of freetype. (I did already switch to 2.2.x and it seems to ork nicely for me)

Well, not to forget some other leaks which unfortunately got closed post 1.1.9, so expect further reduced RAM usage in the next version.

If I make this from the source, do I need to remove my previous version before I do "make install", or can it overwrite without causing problems?

Ok, thanks. I'll choose memory leaks in a game over possibly borking things I need for doing work. (I'm not sure I can find 3 straight hours to game any time soon anyway.)

Open source, it's all about choice. :D
