Artistically, good. Concept-wise, not.

1] Campaigns can be rated whatever-the-hell people want, within reason. Certainly, we might not want NC-17 on the campaign server, but outside of what's essentially pornography, people should be free to make what they want. And this is so far from pornography that it isn't up for discussion.

2] Seeing a woman in essentially a bikini ain't gonna raise your rating above PG. Not in today's world.

These pictures are very good, and it's up to Taurus to judge them - personally, I'd think he'd have to be insane not to use them. I think the gushing comments from scott, Cuyo Quiz, and Wayfarer stand to support this.

I actually would like to see that avenger dressed more, just because it obviously would be difficult for her to fight with her boobs flying everywhere. Fantasy women have a habit of being under-dressed, and I think it improves the fantasy world's atmosphere for them to be dressed for practicality. But, that doesn't detract from my previous gush. Talented artists should be encouraged.

BTW, there is a sex scene in a new order. So really a boob showing just a little isn't the end of the world.

Come on you can see worse stuff everyday on TV.
Ever went though an exhibition of old portraits or have you taken a look at old greek or roman sculptures.

Granted in this outfit I wouldn't run through a forest but this is fantasy.
This girl, this boy, They were part of the land. What happens to the places we used to tend?
She's a hard one to trust, And he's a roving ghost. Will you come back, will you come back, Or leave me alone?

Xandar, nice work. I hope you'll stick around Wesnoth for a while...
from Linux Game Tome wrote:My whole family really enjoys this game, particularly the oldest three children, my 9yo boy, and 12 and 13yo girls. It fires up their imaginations -- my boy has started introducing Wesnoth characters into his sketches. Maybe some of his art will someday make it into the game. :)
It would be a stretch to call this game "educational", but I do appreciate any game that makes the kids think. At first, I didn't think my 9yo was really "getting it"....
Personally i especially like the idea that small children may be playing Wesnoth. I think there's more here for their brain to grow on of than memorizing sequences of button-smashing.
I've seen a number of similar reviews by parents talking about how their preteen children enjoy and play Wesnoth.
Since mainline Wesnoth currenlty would be 99% "G" or "Everyone" rated I think it would be worth while to keep the mainline campaigns that way.
(Let's not get into arguing about what children should or should not be exposed to. It's not the point here. Many parents do care about what their young children are exposed to.)

 This won't hurt Wesnoth, and could encourage is adoption among an additional set of users, especially if we claim somewhere that it's suitable for all ages. It would be great for Wesnoth's continued future if a lot of people who are now young kids fondly remember Wesnoth as one of their first videogames.

 User Campaigns are, as Jetryl said, different. "New Order" is the most extreme one i've noticed, but the designer had the courtesy to put a disclaimer at the start.
Feel free to PM me if you start a new terrain oriented thread. It's easy for me to miss them among all the other art threads.

Ah that's a good thing, I think anything non official can go as long as it has a disclaimer.

I think the portraits are par excellence!

I really can't imagine any kids are going to be mentally disturbed because they see a picture of a fetching elf wearing what is basically a very skimpy bikini.
That said, the avenger could do with some more clothes. Not for "rating reasons" but simply because it seems awfully strange to be wearing a get-up like that in a battle.
It seems to be a trend for women in fantasy to wear as little as possible. No idea why.

But the bottom line is: the drawings are simply great. With that amount of skill, who cares how they are dressed?

That's worse for teens then preteens, nude women don't have an effect on five year olds...no hormones XP

Moderators!
I think we've hi-jacked the new guy's art thread. Not very polite. Perhaps the posts on the subject of what rating Wesnoth should have could be moved to a new topic?

As I said, the art is very good. I like the mage, especially. But I have real problems, conceptually, ratings-wise, and other ways, with having semi-nude portraits in Wesnoth campaigns... sure, if Taurus wants to make Northern Rebirth PG-13 (the way A New Order is), that's his call, but I advise against it.

PS: I especially think it is a bad idea to have pointless nudity. There's no reason a female warrior would go around wearing something like that - they would wear actual battle gear. Something like what is in A New Order is much more acceptable. The sex scene is somewhat necessary for the plot of the campaign.

And, in any case, the comment I've most disagreed with in this thread is Zhukov's last remark. Concept is MUCH more important than art quality. That's one of the major reasons I'm still anti-Drake...
