New campaign : The Restoration of Wesnoth

Post by taz »

A new campaign is available on the server (where it appears as "Restoration") :

The Restoration of Wesnoth (Restoration)

Version 0.1 – Suitable for Wesnoth 1.0rc+

All the scenarios have been completed, so you can play the campaign till the epilogue.

However, scenarios will certainly need balancing, typo and grammar corrections (English is not my native tongue).

The campaign includes a total of 17 scenarios (14 battle scenarios and 3 narrative ones).
The campaign is (somewhat) non linear (you will have to make strategic choices in some occasions) and have some random events to increase it’s replay value.

The campaign is set about a decade after the events described in the Eastern Invasions :

"In the years following the victory over Mal-Ravanal's undead army, Wesnoth plunged into anarchy. The devastated kingdom disintegrated into civil war. But some courageous people worked hard to restore peace, prosperity and unity to the Kingdom. This the story of their struggle to bring a country out of darkness. This is the epic tale of the RESTORATION OF WESNOTH. "

Credits :

I have shamelessly borrowed and modified some stupendous art elements created by (non exhaustive list)

Jalon Lutes (portraits)
Neorice (units)
Fmunoz (units)
Antwerpz (units)
Kestenvarn (maps)

Thanks for having created these marvellous pieces of art guys.

I'm playing the fourth scenario (well, one of them) and so far I'm quite impressed. The scenarios are quite polished, the story is told quite well and there's a lot of dialog. There are some grammatical errors and misspellings/typos here and there, but not enough to be a serious distraction.

I'll play a bit further and comment some more then, but for now: good work!

Don't forget to commit it into WesCamp, this will also give you bug reports for spelling / grammar errors. (Once people start to translate your campaign.)

It gives an error upon trying to start the campaign (map_not_found). I'm too lazy to try to get it to work.

I advise you fix it. ;)

Watching CASE in filenames

Post by cbrink »

The error described above is from a filename case problem in the map loading.
You specified the directory structure for your campaign as 'Restoration' but you used 'RESTORATION' in the map loads.

I assume this scenario was created in Windows. In Unix and it variants, filenames are case sensitive.

Well I would be happy to fix the problem, if I can, but unfor I don't see where the problem is.

The campaign works on my computer(s) (Wesnoth 1.01 on Windows 98 and 2000) and apparently on Zookeeper's one. The campaign was created on Windows. If anybody have an idea how to solve the problem her/his help will be welcome.

In every of your scenarios, you have 'RESTORATION' in the path for the maps.
You should use 'Restoration' instead, because 'RESTORATION' doesn't works on case-sensitive system (like Linux for example).

Thanks for the info.

I modified all the scenarios accordingly and included them in the herebelow attachement.

You just have to replace the old scenarios by the new ones in the scenarios folder of the Restoration campaign.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused to non Windows users.

I will update the campaign on the server once I receive more feebacks about bugs/typo/etc...

I'm currently at "The line", and the quality of the campaign has stayed consistently good all the way. However, there are a lot of typos and grammatical errors (a bit less in the beginning, perhaps, or maybe I just didn't notice then). If you're proficient enough in english to spot and correct them by yourself with reasonable effort, I suggest you do so, otherwise someone should perhaps help you with it. Otherwise the campaign is excellent, and I'd love to see this part of it be of the same high quality as the rest. I think I could even help with proofreading and correcting it myself, if you'd like.

A bug in "Meeting the Dwarves": I was able to get Gowan killed without defeat. I'm not sure why, but sometimes the defeat triggers and sometimes not. Both times the defeat occurred was when a dwarf killed him, and both times it didn't it was blue or yellow who did it, though.

Zookeeper thanks vm for your review.

Your help will be welcome for proofreading and correcting if you have time.

For the “Meeting the Dwarves scenario (and its alternative scenario) I (hopefully) fixed the bug by adding a line

[event]
name=die
[filter]
description=Gowan
[/filter]
[endlevel]
result=defeat
[/endlevel]
[/event]

Not very elegant but efficient I guess.

Pls find herebelow the revised scenarios.

And the following names in the scenarios :

Code: Select all

scenarios/Anarchy.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Carte}"
scenarios/Battle.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Carteb}"
scenarios/Crossing.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Cartec}"

scenarios/Harried.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Carteh}"
scenarios/Justice.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Cartej}"
scenarios/Kaosa.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Carteka}"
scenarios/Kaosb.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Cartekb}"
scenarios/Line.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Cartel}"
scenarios/m.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Cartem}"
scenarios/o.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Carteo}"
scenarios/p.cfg:map_data="{@campaigns/Restoration/maps/Cartep}"

Thanks for the info

I will work on it during the week-end and rename all the files. If everything goes well we should have a 0.2 version (hopefully) compatible with Linux on the server on Monday next. Thanks for your patience. ;)
