First Wesnoth 1.0 release candidate
Wesnoth 1.0rc1 is out!
This is the first release candidate for Wesnoth 1.0 and we would like it to be the last one too
Lots of bugs have been fixed and several more languages have reached 100% in the official core packages. As it was announced, only languages for which the core packages are translated up to 100% will be included in 1.0.
Languages not-yet-included which reach 100% core-completion can still be included in the final 1.0 if more RC versions are required. Otherwise, they will be included in 1.0.x versions after 1.0. As you see, you still can get your language in, so keep (or start) helping with your translation.
In addition, The Dark Hordes campaign has been removed from the official tarball, and it's now available on the campaign server.
You can check details at http://changelog.wesnoth.org.
Downloads:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... z?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 5?download
You can get the xdelta from the 0.9.7 source to 1.0rc1 here (256 Kb):
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... a?download
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... 5?download
Check http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download_Xdeltas for info on using xdelta.
As a fallback you can also get files from
http://files.wesnoth.org/ - you should first try to get files
through SourceForge to help us save bandwidth.
server.wesnoth.org will soon be running 1.0rc1 and can be used for multiplayer games.
Instructions for bug reporting can be found -

MacOS X, Debian, Mandrakelinux, Windows and BeOS packagers have been informed.

Oh no look out its a ray gun.
You should move to avoid the rays
the rays are coming out of the gun
if you are hit by the rays
you will be shot by the rays
the rays are fast so you should be fast to
can you win against the fast rays from the gun?

Some explanation of what a 'Release Candidate' is might be needed:
This is not version 1.0. Rather, it is a version which we think 'might be' 1.0, if it doesn't have any severe bugs. So, we're releasing it to the community for testing. If after a suitable time period -- perhaps a week -- we decide it's good enough to be 1.0, we will relabel it and declare it 1.0.
If it turns out to not be suitable to be used as 1.0, we will fix the problems that appear with it, and release a second release candidate.
This process will continue until we come up with a version that is suitable to be used as 1.0. Of course, we are hoping that this version is it, but only time will tell.

Debian packages available, Windows in SF, xdelta available
I've just uploaded Debian packages for 1.0rc1 to the official Debian mirrors. They will be available in incoming.debian.org after some minutes and tomorrow in every Debian mirror.
I've also uploaded to Sourceforge Dave's Windows binary (please, use this preferently over files.wesnoth.org to save us bandwidth), (38.9 Mb):
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... e?download
XDelta from 0.9.7 (3.9 Mb):
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesn ... a?download
XDelta instructions:

Full version (40Mb):
ftp://victor.teaser.fr/pub/lwa/wesnoth/ ... 1.0rc1.dmg
Lite version (23Mb):
ftp://victor.teaser.fr/pub/lwa/wesnoth/ ... 1_lite.dmg
The lite version containts the game only, with music and large story images removed.
Changes from previous :
- (ugly) hack to display timestamp in selected language for save files when possible.
- add editor macros in the menu.
- update Folders menu.
- move the builtin beta scenario editor from the game to the map editor.

Way to go Isaac!
I love the game and like everything that you've done with it. I hope you continue to keep up the good work!
