Does it have to be a fist? Here's a hack showing what I mean. Is it good?

Jet sez it must have digits of some form. Your idea is cool, but when the woses have digits in the standing frame, they have to have the same ones in their weapon icon.

Re this:

You might consider making the fingers less human. Perhaps something like the claw-ish digits on the sprite would work better.
Or perhaps thicken the finger joints to make it look knotted and gnarled...

It might just be me but on the wose sprite, the arm/trunk looks far too thick compared to the fingers, which do seem flat. The only other critique is that the fingers seem to be folding backwards and the trunk (hand) isnt folding backwards, this is giving the impression that they are just finger shaped bits of wood that have been glued onto Its' trunk

Hello there!

I'm not sure it quite fits the style, but it may be better than nothing.

Other than the shine on the arrow tip, it looks rather good, maybe a bit of cleaning up, to make it look more wesnoth-ish, at which it could be the ballista icon. Anyway, nice work!

The art devs are gonna love you for this.

Nice job. The only critique I can think of is to perhaps show more of the mount...but I daresay you already tried this.

This is a project I had for quite a time, as some may remember :) , but life heavily interfered. And I have no children yet  .

:D Yeah, no kidding. I can't see any improvements that need to be done before this gets committed. About the only thing I'd do is flip the thing horizontally to match the other, similar weapons (crossbows).

I've committed this; though of course the usual rule of "if someone sees further improvement to make, please do so" applies.

Thanks guys! I have to say the link highlighted by wayfarer : http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm was really useful (and particularly the radiosity paragraph, it's magic!)

I tried making a wooden sword image, but I can't get the handle right.
