Proper PNG Transperancy

Post by Dave »

At the moment, we are using black as our transperancy colour. This is because Wesnoth originally used bmp files, which I don't believe support transperancy. PNG supports transperancy, and as such, I am planning to move over to using PNG transperancy, instead of black.

Would anyone object, or otherwise have problems with this change?

It'd also mean if people use images straight from the game as forum avatars, they'd look alot nicer too ;)

That would be a very nice change. Alpha blending could allow some nice things, like better terrain transitions or translucent light effects (Delfador's lightning, fireball, etc). I'm sure the artists would put this into good use.

Yes I agree that with this, and alpha blending, the eye candy of the game will benefit much.

I had to trim the black edges off of my avatar. It looked horible with all the black stuff around it.
